Welcome to the North Central College Office of Residence Life page! We will be posting updates and
Our team spent part of spring break completing Mental Health First Aid training. We would like to thank KidsMatter for their generous sponsorship to allow our team to get certified in MHFA! We also want to thank Rachel Jones from the North Central College Office of Residence Life who spent the past few days facilitating the training for us!
A statement to Angel and our Campus Community:
To Angel,
We at the Office Of Residence Life want to apologize directly to you that you were the victim of this racist act. Angel has continued to serve her residents, fellow staff members, and the campus community in a way that exceeds the expectations of our students. Angel has committed countless hours to outside commitments, advocating for our residential community and redefining what it means to build community. Angel, we are endlessly grateful for all that you are as a Black Woman, student, leader, role model, and friend to so many on our campus.
To the Campus Community,
We are disappointed in the continued acts of racism that have occurred on our campus and within our residence halls. However, we continue to encourage our students to use their voices and actions and hold each other accountable in all aspects of their time at North Central. Reporting even the most minor conversation can help lead us to further support Angel during this time. We will continue to strive for a community within the Residence Life Department that holds each other accountable and recognizes the larger impact of racist acts such as this. Healing is a process that takes time, commitment, and constant support; we strongly encourage students to take proactive action alongside Campus Partners to further promote a safe and inclusive spacer.
If you or anyone you know is continuing to feel the impact of this, we encourage you to speak with a Hall Director or RA. If you would like report information please navigate to North Central College ‘The Hub’ ➡️ ‘Reporting Tools’
This past Friday our Resident Assistants officially completed their training! We could not ask for a more dedicated group of leaders to welcome our residents to!

As we near the end of Sexual Assault Awareness month, we want to acknowledge the barriers to reporting. Please know that we believe and stand with survivors, and encourage our students to continue utilizing Campus Resources.
We hope to see you tomorrow afternoon for Dyson Wellness Centers Walk-A-Mile beginning at 3PM.
Interested in an opportunity to give back? Join chartwells next week for their Build a Bag event on Wed, April 27 from 9am-10am!
The following information was shared with students yesterday:
“On April 27, Chartwells will be hosting its nationwide Grateful event. As part of this event, NCC Dining will be hosting a “Build A Bag” event on April 27 from 9am-10am in Kaufman Dining Hall. During this event they will have materials that will allow students and others in the campus community to decorate and bag up to 200 snack bags to be donated to Cardinal Operation Hope and Help. COHH will be distributing bags to students via the Giving Boxes and as giveaways to advertise our resources.
Chartwells has asked COHH to help them to find volunteers to pack the bags. This would be a great opportunity for students/organizations that need community service hours or other teams and groups. Volunteers will receive community service hours, 1 dining voucher (valid at any dining location), and $10 dining dollars. Chartwells’ flyer for the event is attached. Please contact Elizabeth Walters at [email protected] to sign up ahead of time.”
Please join our Dyson Wellness Center next week Wednesday, April 27th starting at Old Main!
The following details were sent to students earlier today:
“April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and Dyson Wellness Center is hosting Walk a Mile on April 27th at 3pm. The awareness event will start with a resource fair in front of Old Main where campus partners and local resources will host informational tables for attendees. Following the resource fair, the program will start at 3:30pm with a speaker who will share the importance of believing survivors and raising awareness. This will kick off our walk through campus ending at Championship Plaza where additional speakers will talk.”
Move out time is just under 3 weeks! Be sure to review the process so you know how to check out properly.

Congratulations to the nominees of the Carleen Verstraete Outstanding Resident Student Award
Carleen Verstraete was an outstanding student leader during her time at North Central College. Noted for her compassion and dedication to residents, Carleen was a role model and peer mentor for many students. Regretfully, Carleen was lost in a tragic car accident while she was a student at NC. To honor her memory, the Office of Residence Life established the Carleen Verstraete Outstanding Resident Student Award.
Each year, the Office of Residence Life recognizes a resident student who exemplifies the same compassion, care for others, self-motivation, and dedication to the Residence Life program that Carleen embodied. This person must be of junior or senior standing, make significant contributions to the Residence Life program at North Central College, and demonstrate a positive involvement in the campus community. This award is also recognized at the state and regional levels within the Residence Hall Association.
The recipient of this award will be recognized at the Student Leadership Awards Tuesday, April 12th from 6-8pm in Wentz Science Center Stevenson Hall
