🕎 Chag urim sameach (Happy Festival of Lights) to all who celebrate!

Hanukkah starts tonight at sundown and ends at sundown on December 15th.

What is Hanukkah?
Hanukkah (Chanukah) is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.

The Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication,” and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple (as you’ll read below). Also spelled Hanukkah (or variations of that spelling), the Hebrew word is actually pronounced with a guttural, “kh” sound, kha-nu-kah, not tcha-new-kah.

✡️ Learn more about Hanukkah here: https://www.chabad.org/holidays/chanukah/default_cdo/jewish/Hanukkah.htm

❓Have you taken Wood Badge❓If not, your next opportunity is Spring 2024!

DWC Wood Badge Course 11-330-24 is schedule to run May 17-19 & June 1-2, 2024
Scout Reservation under the expert guidance of Course Director Peter Kimpton. Each WB course has a theme. The theme of this course is "Be the Change."

✨ What is Wood Badge you ask? ⚜️️
Aside from being one of the BEST times you will have in Scouting, Wood Badge is the top tier leadership course for Adult Scouters. Wood Badge courses aim to make Scouters better leaders by teaching advanced leadership skills, and by creating a bond and commitment to the Scout movement.

So.....why take Wood Badge? 🤔

At “Into the Woods" this past fall, the benefit of Wood Badge training was on full display. All but one of the staff was Wood Badge trained*. Wood Badge is leadership training that paid off handsomely for that event's attendees.

The event coordinators set the vision, recruited the right staff, set expectations and gave direction, and then turned them loose. Trust was absolute. Each team member set priorities and created a plan with the steps required for success. Obstacles were encountered and surmounted, challenges were met, changes were managed, and problems were addressed. Supplies were ordered, the event was publicized, participants were registered, and the shared campsites and stations were coordinated.

Progress was monitored and teammates were supported. Program was delivered and the comments to the all-volunteer staff were overwhelmingly positive and complimentary. None were critical or negative.

If WB training can result in this outcome for a Councili camporee, think about what it could do for your unit!

*The lone exception was a recently turned 18-year old on staff, who is NYLT trained and a 3-time staffer for that course, which is very similar to Wood Badge. He fit into the staff and program seamlessly. Expect to see him on a course soon. 😉

Troop 424 of Merrimack, NH, will be celebrating Anita Creager's life in Scouting on Saturday, September 16th at 3:00pm. Please see the shared post for further details. Please email [email protected] with RSVP and questions.

We are celebrating Anita Creager's life in Scouting. She has devoted more than 50 years of service to the BSA and has had a significant and positive impact on hundreds, if not thousands, of lives in our community. In addition to co-founding Troop 424 of Merrimack, NH, she has served in many roles in that troop, as well as in Troop 15, also in Merrimack, including Scoutmaster, Asst. Scoutmaster, Councilor for Merit Badges, and multiple Committee positions. And that’s just to name a few. Aside from all of that, she has also volunteered 1000s of hours of service at the district and council levels of BSA in NH, and to the Order of the Arrow. And.. in her spare time, she has served as caretaker and coordinator for Camp Whip-o-Will in Merrimack. She has done all this, and much, much more with Love, Devotion, Passion, and Selflessness. So please join us to show Mrs. C what she means to all of us! Saturday, September 16, 2023 starting at 3:00 p.m. It will take place at Camp Carpenter Dining Hall, 300 Blondin Road, Manchester, NH. Dinner and dessert will be served. Also, please email [email protected] with RSVP and questions.

📣 Meet your *NEW* Arrowhead Roundtable Commissioner!! 📢

Meet Brendan Adams, Cub Scouts 👋🏼

⚜️What is the best part of being a Round Table Commissioner?
I have never been one but I am excited to find out!

⚜️What is a great Scouting training experience you’ve had as a participant? Woodbadge!

⚜️What is your top Scouting memory as both a Scout and a Leader? All my best memories are from Camp Carpenter

⚜️What are other Scouting positions you’ve held prior to this? Cubmaster, Den Leader, and Program Area Director at Camp Carpenter

⚜️What is your goal for Round Table? To build up attendance from Cub Scout leaders and families by providing more interesting and relevant programing for them!

⚜️What do you do outside of Scouting, both professionally and personally? Professionally, I have just started as an a Assistant Teacher at Mountain Village Charter School, a Montessori school in Plymouth. Personally, I enjoy being active and being with my friends as much as possible!

⚜️What is the best advice you’ve ever received from a Scouting volunteer Delegation is your friend.

⚜️What is a lesson that you learned in Scouting that still stands out? A group of people dedicated to a common goal can do incredible things!
