Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a treatment that involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber. This increased oxygen level can help to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote the growth of new tissue.

There are some evidence that HBOT may be helpful for people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD):
✓ One study found that HBOT treatment over a 4-week period led to a significant reduction in PTSD symptoms, including anxiety, depression, and nightmares.
✓ Another study found that HBOT may help to improve brain function in people with PTSD.

Ways that HBOT may help those with PTSD:

1️⃣ Neuroplasticity
2️⃣ Reduced inflammation
3️⃣ Increased oxygen delivery to the brain
4️⃣ Helps heal the brain

It is important to note that more research is needed to confirm the benefits of HBOT for PTSD. However, the available evidence suggests that HBOT may be a promising treatment option for some people with this condition.

HBOT is not a cure for PTSD, but it may be an effective treatment for some people. If you are interested in trying HBOT for PTSD, talk to your doctor.

HBOT is FDA-approved for many conditions including tissue damage caused by radiation therapy. HBOT treatments that are FDA-approved are typically covered by insurance, making this treatment accessible for many individuals!

What is radiation damage?

Radiation therapy is used to treat tumors of all types, from tumors in the brain to those in the breast, prostate, uterus and gastrointestinal tract. Although radiation therapy is becoming more accurate and more successful in the treatment of cancer, there is still the potential that normal tissue is damaged in the process. This is called radiation damage, which may have a significant negative impact on a patient's quality of life.

The use of HBOT to treat radiation damage can heal the tissue by regenerating blood vessels, re-populating the damaged area with new stem cells, and accelerating all stages of wound healing.

Other benefits:
✅ Helps fight infection
✅ Reduces pain
✅ More oxygen speeds up repair and recovery
✅ Promotes stem cell mobilization
✅ Reduces inflammation

Kids can benefit from HBOT too!

Our young patient had stitches in his forehead and lip after a bad spill off a bicycle when he lost control going down the hill. He took quite a tumble and tossed over his handlebars on to the road.

Fortunately, his scans and x-rays came back normal. But he had a lot of abrasions, bruising and swelling including bruised ribs and dislodged tooth.

First photo (Left. 'Friday'): Taken before his first hyperbaric oxygen treatment
Second photo (Right. 'Sunday'): Taken after 2 days later, after three hyperbaric oyxgen therapy treatments

HBOT treatments reduced the swelling and assisted the skin to heal from the bruises and abrasions. Our young patient's doctor originally said his face would probably not be fully healed for about six months but with constant sessions, he is on his way to a faster recovery.

Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Covered by Insurance?

In the United States, the FDA currently recognizes HBOT for a limited list of 14 conditions, often referred to as "on-label" conditions. Most insurance plans cover some or all of the cost of HBOT when it is given to the patient for one of these FDA-approved conditions. In circumstances in which insurance coverage is not available, several payment options and financial assistance programs have been made available for HMS patients.

Some of the most common conditions that are covered by insurance for HBOT include:
✔ Radiation tissue damage
✔ Diabetic lower extremity wounds (diabetic foot ulcers)
✔ Failed skin grafts and flaps
✔ Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSHL)
✔ Non-healing wounds
✔ Osteomyelitis
✔ Crush injury & other acute traumatic ischemias

Knee pain can be debilitating, affecting your mobility and quality of life. Whether it's due to aging, injury, or conditions like osteoarthritis, finding effective treatment is crucial. Fortunately, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy offers a promising solution. In this article, we'll explore how PRP injections can provide relief for knee problems and enhance your overall joint health.

Here's how PRP treatment can benefit individuals with bad knees:

✅ Pain Relief: PRP injections help reduce inflammation and alleviate pain, providing much-needed relief for individuals struggling with knee discomfort.

✅ Enhanced Healing: By delivering concentrated growth factors to the site of injury, PRP therapy accelerates the healing process. This can be particularly beneficial for athletes looking to recover from sports-related knee injuries.

✅ Joint Repair: Osteoarthritis, characterized by the breakdown of cartilage in the knee joint, can cause significant pain and stiffness. PRP injections promote the regeneration of cartilage tissue, potentially slowing down the progression of arthritis.

✅ Injury Repair: Knee injuries, such as torn meniscus or ligament damage, can severely impact mobility and quality of life. PRP therapy aids in the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues, including ligaments, tendons, and cartilage. By promoting the body's natural healing processes, PRP injections facilitate the recovery from knee injuries, allowing patients to regain strength and functionality in the affected joint.

✅ Improved Functionality: With reduced pain and improved joint health, patients often experience enhanced mobility and functionality in their knees, allowing them to engage in activities they enjoy without limitations.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss, more commonly known as sudden deafness, is an unexplained, rapid loss of hearing. It typically occurs in one ear and can happen either at once, over a span of a few hours, or over several days.

HBOT is used to treat sudden sensorineural hearing loss by increasing blood flow and transporting more oxygen to the inner ear and nerve cells. Doing so can help reduce swelling, promote stem cell growth, and aid in fighting bacteria and infections which leads to recovered hearing.

The sooner patients start HBOT for SSNHL, the better. The best chances for recovery occur when started within the first 48 hours. After 2 weeks the chances for success begin to decrease. We will however, treat as far as 3 months out.

HBOT induces gene expression! 🧬🧬🧬

A 2021 study reported that HBOT was found to induce messenger RNA molecule changes in whole-blood samples from healthy aging subjects. He reported 1342 genes up-regulated and 570 genes down-regulated.

The implications of these findings are far-reaching. By influencing gene expression, HBOT may have the potential to:
✨ Promote healthy aging
✨ Enhance inflammation resolution
✨ Improve stress resilience

While further research is needed to fully elucidate the mechanisms by which HBOT influences gene expression and its long-term effects on health, this study provides a compelling foundation for exploring the therapeutic potential of HBOT in promoting overall health and well-being.

In 1662, British physician Hank Henshaw invented the first hyperbaric chamber called "Domicilium." Using organ bellows, he pumped ambient air into the airtight vessel.

Henshaw conducted experiments with varying atmospheric pressures and found that reducing chamber pressure provided relief for individuals with chronic illnesses, while increased pressure benefited those with acute disorders.

His invention marked the beginning of scientific exploration in hyperbaric oxygen medicine and served as a successful model for other pioneers in the field.

Let's give a huge thanks to Hank Henshaw for his revolutionary discovery. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Like if you agree!
