Hello! My name is Dr. Ashanna Sevin. I am a chiropractor in Alameda with a thriving practice that supports peoples' holistic healing. In addition to people releasing stresses and traumas (physical, emotional and chemical), I tell every one of my patients to learn and practice Foundation Training. I have been in the health and wellness field for decades, am a certified yoga teacher, worked as an exercise therapist and personal trainer for years, and now a doctor of chiropractic. In all those years of studying the body, exercises,yoga, and breathing techniques (pranayama), I had never come across anything so powerful as FT in changing posture and neurologically training the musculature to move, sit and stand with an upright spine and expanded ribcage. Congratulations to Lucas for wining the Lafayette Tennis Club Tournament, junior boys singles!

Lucas is about to turn 14. The strength and agility training we've been doing for almost 2 years has had a dramatic payoff in his game and overall fitness.

I had my first personal trainer at about his same age, so I know first-hand how vital it is to learn to strength train correctly *and* what an incredible tool it is to elevate your sport. It's an honor to be the fitness professional that helps Lucas excel at tennis and learn the skills to exercise effectively for the rest of his life.

How has Foundation Training changed the way you "stretch"?

Stop relaxing and do the work (to lengthen your muscles).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Relaxing teaches your body how to relax. Which is great if you're trying to relax. But often what you feel as a "tightness" is not a muscle that needs to be stretched, but a muscle pattern that needs to be corrected. So passively sinking into a relaxed pose neither addresses the pattern (cause) or ability of the muscle to lengthen in real life (effect)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Muscles are set up like a pulley system: one side lengthens while the opposing side shortens. For efficient, pain-free movement both sides need to be able to actively get longer and shorter. And this interplay needs to occur in sync with core stability/engagement. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Our Story

I want to help you reach your health and fitness goals!

Since becoming interested in exercise, sports and health as a high school and college athlete, a healthy lifestyle has been paramount to me. The desire to share this knowledge and interest with others inspired me to become a personal trainer certified through the American Council on Exercise. I am also certified through the Health and Fitness institute at Cal Sate East Bay and hold YMCA certifications in Personal Training, Core Muscle Training and Advanced Strength Training, and, most recently, Foundation Training.

I have been a personal trainer for over 15 years and have been a dedicated exerciser and outdoor enthusiast for most of my life. These interests have kept me active in running, biking, strength training and adventure travel, fueled me as a Division I NCAA athlete and inspired me to reach the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa.

I strongly believe in orienting every aspect of my life towards the pursuit of a healthy mind and body, and have found success in setting goals and working diligently to achieve them.

Whatever your fitness goals are, from improving general health, sports performance, weight loss or the myriad other benefits of exercise, I am dedicated to helping my clients succeed.
