One More Time: What is a Service Dog? — Mobility Service Dog - West Coast Project Even today, many still do not understand the jobs service dogs do and the rights they and their handlers have. So, here again, we offer up a brief Q&A about those wonderful animals who are the core of our mission.

The difference in our dogs: In training, we only use loving positive reinforcement in socializing, playing, training, handling, doggie-fun, educating, and tasking our dogs! Our Service Dogs-in-Training are brought up with Puppy Culture creating confidence and ready for the world! We rehome our donated poodles from breeders and rescue agencies whose priorities are their health, temperament, and working ability. As a result, they love learning and working; happy dogs make the best service dogs!

Meet Aiko Tan, Board Member- Vice President, Governance and Public Relations at . Aiko is currently the Senior Director of Independence At Home (IAH), the home and community-based services division of SCAN Health Plan. IAH provides seniors and disabled adults with easy access to community-based services that enable them to remain healthy and independent at home. In this role, Aiko leads the department and current programs include Homeless Services, MSSP in CA, Behavioral Health, Digital Literacy, Health and Wellness events and Charitable Giving. Aiko’s early career started as a senior neuroscience research associate at UCLA’s Brain Research and Neuropsychiatric Institutes where she co-authored several peer-reviewed scientific journal articles focused on opioid addiction research. Aiko was a co-founder and board director/officer of the Illumination Foundation, a nonprofit agency focusing on breaking the cycle of homelessness for families and individuals in Orange County. For 8 years, she served as the Board Secretary and Governance Chair. As the Executive Director of Healthcare for IF, Aiko directed strategic initiatives and oversaw the launch and operations of several of the innovation projects at IF focusing on healthcare for the homeless, which included building the Recuperative Care program from a pilot program at one motel site into now one of the largest Recuperative Care programs in the nation. In this role, she also oversaw the Buena Park Community and Mobile clinic and the Access OC Free Surgery program. Aiko then took the helm as Executive Director of HomeAid Los Angeles, a chapter of HomeAid America, dedicated to building homeless housing and facilities throughout LA County. Aiko holds degrees in Biology from UCLA, Biotechnology from CSUSM, and a Healthcare MBA from UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business.
RIP Jack 🤍 Retired service dog Jack transitioned yesterday. Jack was hope, love, possibilities, strength and promises for many. He was such a loyal companion and helped his handler as well as friends and family through delicate times and into healing. Run free Jacky!

Sundays with service dogs 💛🦮
MobilityDog works with adults of all ages and mature 16.5-year-olds seeking a pathway to adulthood. Each service dog handler must be able to care for their dog and be an active member of our community. Each of our service dog matches are unique, with specialties and niches.

Imagine being denied entry to a public place simply because you rely on a service dog. Unfortunately, this scenario is often common for individuals, like myself, who depend on these trained animals for assistance. The repercussions of such refusals extend beyond inconvenience; they highlight a disregard for accessibility and inclusion and can have profound emotional and practical consequences.
As someone who relies on a service dog, I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges especially when traveling. Below are two personal experiences Beckett and I experienced. Continue on our blog, link in story
