Independence Blue Cross Champions Share Food Program - Share Food Program 08/30/2024

“Hunger is a year-round crisis in our communities, and so we need year-round help to ensure our neighbors have convenient and reliable access to nourishing food whenever they need it,” said George Matysik, Share’ executive director.

We are so grateful for the continued commitment of Independence Blue Cross and their Blue Crew. Their corporate support and volunteer efforts are a big part of the reason we’re able to serve hundreds of thousands of individuals and families in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Check out IBX’s recent video and article about the impact they help Share achieve here:

Independence Blue Cross Champions Share Food Program - Share Food Program The company’s longstanding relationship with Share Food Program (Share) demonstrates how partnerships between nonprofits and programs like the IBX Blue Crew, can achieve the greatest possible impact on the health of communities.

Our newly-wrapped truck is serving looks (and thousands of pounds of free food to our neighbors). Thanks to Aqua for their ongoing support of our efforts to fight hunger in Delaware County. Because of their multi-year partnership and sponsorship, we can provide life-sustaining resources to individuals and families when they need it most.

Staff Spotlight 💫 Victoria Martin-Nelson is the Home Delivery Assistant at Share as of June 2024

“I was introduced to Share Food Program about three years ago through volunteering with Philly Food Rescue and South Philadelphia Community Fridge. I’m so happy to be able to commit to hunger relief as a full time pursuit through my role at Share. The Senior Food Box Home Delivery Program makes food aid accessible to underserved seniors by bringing food right to their door. The entire program is an incredible group effort that is made possible through hundreds of volunteers and a dedicated team at Share.”

“When I’m not at Share, you can usually find me with my neighbors at a community fridge or pantry in South Philadelphia. I recently talked to Modern Farmer magazine about community fridges, and the communal effort required to keep them operating. From sending out senior boxes to stocking community fridges, every step towards food justice is the result of many people working together to make change. As abolitionist Mariame Kaba has said, “Everything worthwhile is done with other people.”

Share Food Program is pleased to announce that Carla Clanagan, Share’s Montgomery County Program Director, was appointed to the inaugural leadership team of Montgomery County’s newly formed Food Policy Council and was also named an associate member of the Montgomery County Commission for Women.

The Montgomery County Food Policy Council was established by the County Commissioners in March 2024 to coordinate an equitable and sustainable food system in Montgomery County. The council does this by increasing coordination of County services and resources, improving communication among food systems stakeholders, and identifying collective goals and developing ways to achieve them.

As a member of the council’s leadership team, Clanagan will help shape the strategy and direction of the council. She will also serve to advance recommendations for policies and funding allocations.

In her role with the County’s Commission for Women, Carla will work to promote opportunities for women, reduce gender inequality and discrimination, and to collaborate with other Montgomery County organizations and institutions. The commission also advocates for policies and programs that reduce discrimination and bias while uplifting women in every field.
