Finally, I am the Webmaster for PLWA! I am a joint JD/MPH student, and I am currently working on my master’s degree in Health Policy and Management. I am originally from New Jersey. I graduated from Muhlenberg College in May 2020, where I majored in neuroscience and minored in political science and public health. This summer, I worked as a law clerk for Tucker Arensberg, P.C. This semester, you can find me around the law school working as a Teaching Assistant for Professor Weisberg’s section of Torts and working as a Staff Editor of Law Review. For fun, I love reading psychological thrillers.
Cassie is the Community Liaison for PLWA. She is a 2L and currently works as Disability Law Intern for Neighborhood Legal Services. She completed her undergraduate at Carnegie Mellon and is a Pittsburgh native. Prior to law school, she worked as a domestic violence advocate and lobbied for the civil rights of sexual assault survivors.
Corey is a 2L from the Pittsburgh area. She went to Pitt for undergrad and majored in political science and history. She loved it so much that she chose to stay for law school. She has taken an interest in real estate and sports law. In addition to PLWA, she is a member of the sports and entertainment law society. She loves sports, especially the Pens and Pitt. She also loves animals, especially dogs. A fun fact about Corey is that she met Bo and Sunny Obama (the Obama’s dogs)!
Katelyn, a 2L, attended the University of Rochester for undergrad where she majored in Political Science and Business. She is interested in Corporate and Tax law. For fun, she likes to walk her dog and travel.
Lucia Romani is a 2L originally from Beckley, WV, and she is so excited to be the PWLA secretary for the coming year! She attended WVU and studied English and Philosophy. She is interested primarily in health law and hopes to get some experience in the field this year. She also loves reading, eating delicious food, and riding her horse.
Catrina Abbott, a 2L, currently serves as the Vice President of PLWA. Her hometown is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She received a Bachelor of Science – Business Administration with concentrations in Human Resources and Marketing from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. She worked for several years in Recruiting and Employee Engagement before going to law school. This year, she will continue to work as a Law Clerk at GRB Law, and will start as a Teaching Assistant for Legal Analysis and Writing and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Law and Commerce. She is also involved in Christian Legal Society, Phi Alpha Delta, Student Ambassadors, Prisoner Legal Support Project, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Congrats on making it through the first week of classes, Pitt Law Students! PLWA is celebrating by introducing you to our Executive Board members!
Christine Pelini, a 2L, serves as president. She is from North Canton, Ohio and went to the University of Kentucky for her undergraduate degree in Political Science, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. She is a candidate for the John P. Gismondi Civil Litigation Concentration Program, as she hopes to work in civil litigation in the future. She is currently a member of the Mock Trial team, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Law and Commerce, and Director of Public Outreach for the Sports and Entertainment Law Society.
Christine shares the following message: “Our executive board is made up of intelligent, kind, and dedicated women. They embody the attributes of a devoted law student, a role model, and a strong woman. I am incredibly excited to see the Pitt Law Women’s Association continue to grow and develop. As President of PLWA, I hope to continue our organization’s legacy and purpose of educating about women in the law community. PLWA has recently included intersectionality in our view of gender equity in the legal profession, which I will continue and expand. I will work with other organizations to educate on social issues that affect women. I will continue to celebrate the accomplishments of women in law in our community, by hosting the annual event, Marjorie Madison Day. I am proud to be President of an organization that makes a difference in our community.”
Join us in attending the ACBA’s Women Law Division lunch on Friday, April 9th from 12 PM to 1 PM. The lunch will consist of an informal Zoom discussion and networking event to connect law students at Duquesne and Pitt with practicing attorneys. This is a great opportunity to meet local attorneys in a casual setting!
To sign up for this lunch, please email Julie Vanneman at [email protected].
For the first time in the history of the Oscars, more than one female filmmaker has been nominated for an Academy Award for best director in a single year.
Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) and Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”) scored nominations alongside Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari”), David Fincher (“Mank”) and Thomas Vinterberg (“Another Round”). The honor is also notable because the category rarely features any women: Before this year, only five female filmmakers had been recognized.
