We're excited to introduce your to our 2024 Shelton Leadership Forum Keynote Speaker Lindsey Pollak!

Lindsey is a New York Times bestselling author, international speaker, and often described as a “generational translator.” She is the author of four career and workplace advice books, including "The Remix: How to Lead and Succeed in the Multigenerational Workplace."

Her keynote session is titled "How to Lead and Succeed in the Multigenerational Workplace." She'll explore strategies on how to develop synergy and collaboration amongst the five generations in our current workforce.

We're excited to introduce you to Dr. Dustin Evatt, our new Associate Director in the Shelton Leadership Center. Dustin will oversee the Center's academic programs and minors, assessment efforts, and research agenda. He joins us from Western Carolina University where he was a faculty member and program director for the Leadership Minor Program.

"It's a joy to join the Shelton Center and work alongside a dynamic team to impact the lives of NC State students and community members," Dustin says. "Throughout my last 15 years working in higher education, I've remained steadfast in my commitment to educating and empowering others to become changemakers. I deeply believe in the Shelton Center's mission and legacy of developing, educating, and inspiring future generations of values-based leaders, and I'm excited to uplift this important work inside and outside the classroom."

Originally from South Carolina, Dustin earned his Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from Appalachian State University and his Master's of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of Vermont.

Registration for the 2024 Shelton Forum is open!

Join us virtually on October 18 for our 23rd Annual Shelton Forum. This year's Forum theme is "Multigenerational Teams: Creating a Culture for Collaboration."

The Forum will delve into the complexities and opportunities presented by multigenerational teams, offering a comprehensive exploration of strategies to cultivate a cohesive and collaborative work culture. Attendees will gain practical approaches to bridge generational gaps, encourage mutual understanding, and capitalize on the diverse strengths and talents within their teams for innovative organizational success and enhanced team effectiveness.

We officially welcomed our newest cohort of Chancellor's Leadership Development Program students to campus! They spent the weekend learning more about what they can expect during their three years in the program, meeting each other and program staff, and participating in team-building activities.

We're excited to introduce these students to you in the coming weeks, and we can't wait to see all of the amazing things these student leaders will do in CLDP!

The 2024 Summer Start program is underway in Prague!

This two-week program is designed for incoming first-year students and merges the high-impact experiences of a first-year inquiry (FYI) course and NC State Study Abroad.

While abroad, students complete our SLC 250: Critical and Creative Decision-Making Models, which is taught by SLC Director Debbie Acker.

They also participate in excursions throughout Prague including rafting around the village of Cesky Krumluv, hiking the Bohemia Paradise Park rocks, touring the Prague Castle, and more.

This summer, the Shelton Challenge team welcomed 180 high school students from 6 state (including North Carolina) and 38 counties in NC for values-based leadership development.

This impact wouldn't have been possible without the support of our four interns: Sofia, Nicole, Jordan and Keyonna. They wrap up their Shelton Challenge internship with our Center today. While we're sad to see them go, we're so grateful for their work this summer!

Congrats to Allyson Bach for receiving a Distinguished Poster Presentation award at NC State Extension's Summer Internship Showcase earlier this week!

Allyson is a second-year student in our Chancellor's Leadership Development Program.

She spent the summer working to support programming in Rutherford County with extension agents. During the showcase, she spotlighted some of the work she completed in partnership with NC Cooperative Extension.

Students at the Shelton Challenge spent part of their day volunteering at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina today.

They assisted in the distribution center sorting food for our community. The group helped to sort over 20,000 meals during their volunteer time!

The Shelton Challenge is also underway at our partner site North Carolina Wesleyan University. We are so grateful for this partnership that allows us to expand values-based leadership development to more high school students through out the state of North Carolina.

This morning The Shelton Leadership Challenge group held their team-building event in our Game Day as well as utilized our fieldhouse for volleyball, basketball, pickleball, and co****le. What is a typical day like at the Shelton Challenge?

We spend time inside and outside participating in lots of team-building activities! Students work with teams of their peers to explore values-based leadership and build skills that enhance their personal leadership styles.

This interdisciplinary program includes a 10-week study abroad component in Europe, allowing you to earn 12 credit hours while gaining insights into diverse cultures and enhancing your leadership and teamwork skills from a global perspective.

Open to students from any academic background, this program is designed to develop cross-disciplinary, global-minded leaders ready to excel in any professional field.

Applications for the Spring 2025 are now open. The deadline is on Sept. 15, 2024.

At the Shelton Challenge, part of the week's curriculum focuses on one of our core values Social Responsibility and students complete a service project in the local community.

This week, Shelton Challenge students crafted care baskets for the firefighters at Raleigh Fire Department Station 5. They delivered the baskets in person and had the opportunity to learn about the firefighters' responsibilities directly from the team!

Thank you to the Station 5 firefighters who joined us yesterday, and to all our community firefighters for their hard work in keeping us safe!

We also appreciate our students' dedication to completing this service project. It was a fantastic day!

We've had lots of opportunities for team-building this week at the Shelton Challenge!

Students have participated in a low and high ropes course through , group activities with their Coach/Mentor/Trainers (CMTs) and Peer Leaders (PLs), as well as engaging classroom learning sessions led by our team of instructors.

While working in teams, students are learning new skills and engaging in meaningful conversations about values-based leadership!
