Wonder awaits you at the Witte, where Nature, Science and Culture meet. Parking is always FREE in the Brackenridge Park Parking Garage.

The Witte Museum is open year-round except for Easter, the 3rd Monday in October, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Watch out! Did you know the western diamondback rattlesnake can grow up to 5 feet long and weigh up to 15 pounds? Found in the West Texas region, their fangs range from 0.75 inches all the way up to 1.25 inches in length. 🐍

The Witte Museum names Dirk Elmendorf as President & CEO 12/14/2023

We are pleased to announce that Dirk Elmendorf will be the next President & CEO of the Witte Museum, effective January 1, 2024.

Elmendorf joined the Witte Museum Board of Trustees in November 2012 and was Chair of the Board during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is a co-founder of Rackspace Technology (RXT), which is now a publically traded company, and is a successful entrepreneur with a career spanning more than two decades. Elmendorf is active in the community, serving on a number of city and public committees, and is an advocate for education.

“The mission of the Witte to shape the future of Texas is a calling for me,” Elmendorf said. “I’m honored to lead the Witte and build on the legacy of Marise McDermott, who has been an incredible mentor to me.”

For more than two centuries, historians have debated the exact site of the Battle of Medina, which left behind barely a physical trace. In this article for the Austin American-Statesman, Michael Barnes writes about the new evidence indicating the battle's general location on display at the Witte through the end of the year.
