Your SAFD continues celebrating the 50th anniversary of our EMS division. In 2018, SAFD EMS became the gold standard across the country by making whole blood available on ambulances and at trauma scenes. This was first time in the history of the U.S. a program made whole blood available to an entire region and a metropolitan city.

We are celebrating the 28th anniversary of Project Cool! Seniors can pick up fans at the Guadalupe Community Center (1801 W César E Chávez Blvd) Also, you can call United Way’s 2-1-1 and dial “1” to get to the closest location for a free fan. Catholic Charities has a web page dedicated to Project Cool with drop-off locations and a donation link to provide fans to seniors. Also, you can drop off small quantity fan donations at any SAFD Station except station 23 at the Airport (for large quantity fan donations, please contact Catholic Charities). www.ccaosa.org/project-cool/

In the summer, the danger to children left in hot cars can turn deadly fast – even when parked in the shade. Within 30 minutes the temperature in a vehicle can climb to more than 120 degrees. Today your SAFD, Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC), and multiple agencies held a live safety demonstration. Memorial Day is proclaimed as a day of prayer for permanent peace. Join us in remembering those who showed the greatest love there is, in laying down their lives for others.

As we recognize the 50th anniversary of the first National EMS Week, we honor those who came before us, especially those who challenged the status quo and raised the bar for all of us. This year we are also celebrating 50 years of SAFD EMS!!

The end of the school year once again brings a fun-filled afternoon with the annual Douglass Elementary "water day".

Remembering our brother; we carry your memory in our hearts. Scott Patrick Deem died on May 18, 2017, from injuries sustained when he was trapped in a structural collapse during a four-alarm fire.

Can I sign up a camper for more than one camp?
Unfortunately, No.
Due to high demand, campers may only sign up for one camp date (either HeroLikeHer or Co-Ed).
Registrations will be checked and duplicate sign-ups will be removed from Camp. If your camper cannot make the selected date, you agree to notify us within 72 hours prior to camp at [email protected]

It takes integrity, ethics, honor, emotional control, great judgment and so much more to be a part of the SAFD Family. We recognize those that sacrificed so much to promote within our department. Congratulations, and thank you for your service!

Firefighters dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property. In all cases it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life. A special time to stop and reflect on the sacrifices made by firefighters is held on the first Sunday in May at noon local time each year when fire sirens sound for 30 seconds followed by a minute’s silence in memory of, and respect for, all firefighters who have been lost in the line of duty or passed on before us.

In coordination with the San Antonio Fire Department, the City of San Antonio hosts a summit to promote non-traditional career roles for women.
