Congratulations to the new(ish) Marysville Police Foundation for its commitment to public safety in the City of Marysville WA - government. 🥳
The Marysville Police Foundation formally launched in 2023 to fill gaps, build community, engage with youth, improve officer wellness, and, of course, raise money for police dogs, which is literally one of our favorite things to do. 🚓💙🐾 We're already fast friends because we seem to have a lot in common. 🥰
Please visit the Marysville Police Foundation page, give them a “like,” and show them some love.

Thanks to our awesome Seattle Police Department Harbor Patrol Unit donors, Harbor officers are better equipped to save lives and property in 2024! 🚤🛟⚓️
Because of their generosity, the Unit was recently able to purchase six large portable fire pumps and two smaller ones. These versatile, mobile pumps are mainly used for dewatering sinking boats, and can also be used for firefighting. 🔥🌊

Do you follow us on Instagram? 📸
If not, please give us a follow. Instagram is our newest social media platform and we’re working to build our following. There are fun things that happen over there that don’t happen on other social media platforms… Like this! Did you know there is a celebrity rabbit in Seattle named Spaz who goes on adventures all over the city and beyond? 🐇🐾
Well, there is, and he is quite the phenomenon. 🤩 According to his profile, he is an “independent and cultured rabbit.”
We adore this picture of Spaz taken during his “chance” encounter with Police Horses Blue and Chance while they were on patrol earlier this month. 💙🐴🚓

(Don’t worry, Spaz said we could share this picture on FB.)
We are obsessed with this wonderful new billboard right in the heart of downtown Seattle!
What a phenomenal new year's surprise to discover this message of gratitude for the men and women of the Seattle Police Department and the Seattle Fire Department. It’s so nice to see a public display of support for Seattle’s hard-working first responders. 🚓🚒💙
Thanks to our friends at We Heart Seattle for telling us about it. We've already been by multiple times to get photos. 📸
Huge thanks to our new friends at Bolder K9 for gifting us with this awesome custom tug made for Seattle Police Department retired K9 Bucky! 💙🐕🦺🐾
Bolder’s founder, Jake, saw K9 Bucky’s retirement post and offered to make him his very own personalized tug. Bolder K9 specializes in leashes, collars, and toys (including cool tugs like Bucky’s) handmade with working dogs in mind. That means the gear is tough and durable, built for dogs just like K9 Bucky.
And what’s really neat, is that they donate their profits to a local rescue called True North GSD Rescue.
We love the fun branding and are so excited to give this awesome care package to K9 Bucky’s handler. Thank you Bolder! We’re super grateful for your kindness!
Extra points for the Monty Python reference! 🤣
Beautifully said.
Today we intentionally reflect on the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and celebrate his leadership and passion for racial equality. We join our partners at the Seattle Police Department in their commitment to build bridges, foster dialogue, and work towards a safer and more inclusive city for all those who live, work, and play here.
On Martin Luther King Day, the Seattle Police Department takes a moment to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his tireless pursuit of justice, equality, and unity. As we mark this day, it serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering understanding, empathy, and collaboration within our diverse community. The principles advocated by Dr. King inspire us to strive for a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. In honoring his memory, the Seattle Police Department remains committed to building bridges, fostering dialogue, and working towards a safer and more inclusive city for all.

Huge thanks to the Seattle Police Department Photo and Video Unit for supporting our volunteer event with AT&T! 🥳
We're grateful for our partnership with AT&T and look forward to more collaboration in 2024. This event, held in December, helped equip SPD's CSO Unit with much needed cold weather kits to distribute to community members in need.

It saddens us to share that Seattle Police Department K9 Bucky had to be medically retired towards the end of 2023 due to a degenerative condition.
One of SPD’s newest K9s, Bucky started his service to the Seattle community in the summer of 2022. He was partnered with Officer Anthony Ducre and will continue to live with Ducre and his family. Bucky was a highly effective tracker who excelled at his job and loved to go to work with his handler.
We truly mourn this outcome.
He was a chatty, high-energy boy with a goofy side, and we loved watching him train.
In his short time with the department, Bucky deployed a total of 86 times, a phenomenal record in and of itself for just over a year of service. But Bucky successfully balanced quantity with quality, his sharp nose helping to facilitate 31 arrests of potentially dangerous suspects attempting to elude the police. He also excelled at evidence recovery, finding a total of three handguns, plus a fully automatic rifle that had been stashed in a recycling bin.
In addition to working patrol, Bucky worked with SPD’s SWAT team, the PNW Violent Offender Task Force, and completed two missions with the King County Sheriff's Office TAC-30 Unit.
During the final deployment of his career, he successfully tracked two out of three commercial burglary suspects, one of whom was armed with a fully automatic handgun.
This record speaks not only to Bucky’s natural skill as a tracker and the overall benefit of K9s in law enforcement, but also Ducre’s expertise as a K9 handler. The relationship between an officer and their K9 is key to their success. The two must trust each other explicitly, which takes time and consistency. The level of trust needed comes only through continuous, rigorous training.
Bucky exemplified all the best qualities of a law enforcement working dog and we’re sorry that his career was cut short due to an unforeseen medical condition.
We wish him peace, rest, and the very best “normal dog” life. He deserves it. 💙
Awwww we love Bella!! Thanks to American Medical Response - Western Washington and the GMR Therapy Dog Team for showing the men and women of the Seattle Police Department a little love. 💙

"Police Pony Li’l Sebastian is the little pony that could. This sweet guy came onto the Mounted Patrol Unit in early 2019, and was a bit of a handful, proudly displaying his notorious Shetland stubbornness. As it turned out, Li’l Sebastian needed a job to thrive. He is now living his best life as a certified Level I Miniature Therapy Horse, drawing crowds wherever he goes. This remarkable pony did such an amazing job during his certification process, he completed in six weeks what normally takes six months. Lil’ Sebastian was named by Miss Nuutinen’s 5th grade class at Adams Elementary School in Ballard."

Today we would like to wish Seattle Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit Police Horse Chance a very happy birthday! 🥳🎂🎉
PH Chance was born on January 6, 2005, making him 19 years old today. 💙He is a Quarter Horse gelding and the senior-most member of the MPU string, both in terms of his age and his years of service to the community. Chance has served the City of Seattle since 2014, deploys regularly, and is a gracious ambassador for the police department. 🐴🚔🚓
As we’ve gotten to know Chance a bit better over this past year, we’re delighted to share that he can be a bit of a goofball! Chance is excellent at his job and a wonderful public servant, but if whoever is riding him isn’t diligent, he’ll pretend he’s got an itch near his hoof in order to sneak in a few nibbles of grass. He is extremely smart and has a somewhat devious sense of humor, which he doesn’t mind using to mess with his string-mates. 🤣
Chance is very friendly and loves meeting community members. 😍🥰You can recognize him easily by the star on his handsome forehead. He has spent countless hours on patrol, participated in numerous community events, and has served as the riderless horse in multiple memorial ceremony processions.
He’s steadfast and charming and we love him very much. 💙
Happy Birthday Chance! We adore you! We hope someone snuck an apple into your feeder today! 🍎🥕

Thank you KIRO 7 News for helping to honor and remember K9 Jedi today. We appreciate it. 💙🐾
Seattle police remember K9 who saved partner in line of duty
Rest in peace brave and beautiful K9 Jedi. 💔
We'll never forget you.
The Seattle Police Department remembers and honors K9 Officer Jedi who died on this day in 2022. Jedi was stabbed and killed in the line of duty while protecting his SPD partner and best friend. An author once wrote “Dogs die. But dogs live, too… They live brave, beautiful lives. They protect their families. And love us…And they don’t waste time being afraid of tomorrow.” K9 Officer Jedi lived a brave and beautiful life - and wasn’t afraid of anything.
Today we pause to remember fallen Seattle Police Department K9 Jedi, end of watch January 5, 2022. 🐾💔
K9 Jedi was honored at the National Police K9 Memorial Service in Washington D.C. during National Police Week last May. K9 handlers from all over the United States gathered for the service, each laying an individual rose as their fallen partner’s name was called out loud. Once all the roses were laid, a memorial wreath was presented in memory of all the brave, selfless K9 officers who died in the line of duty in 2022.
K9 Jedi’s handler and other members of the Seattle Police Department were in attendance.
Rest in peace handsome hero! We’ll never forget you. 💙
If you would like to learn more about K9 Jedi, plus see pictures of his public memorial at the South Precinct in 2022, please see our memorial post from last year at: https://www.facebook.com/seattlepolicefoundation/posts/pfbid02V4J4asyFTtr2p6c2hJy98X2pWNq16Xjj5AyiQtzdxzZk2mgK77vestGm4opziTPYl
At the start of December we were excited to attend the second installment of the Seattle Police Department's Cooking with the Chief, a five-part youth-oriented community engagement series funded by the Seattle Police Foundation grant program, and in partnership with PCC and Seattle magazine.
Cooking with the Chief takes place monthly (for five months) at the PCC community kitchen in Columbia City.
Each class welcomes Chief Adrian Diaz or another member of SPD leadership, youth from different areas of Seattle, one to two Seattle police officers, and a special guest, who learn to create a dish from scratch. The December class featured Deputy Chief Eric Barden, a group of local students from the Dare-2-Be Project, professional Chef and Culinary Instructor Hend Yahya, and special guest Seattle Housing Authority Vice Chair Gerald Smiley. 💙🚓🏠
Gerald Smiley is a Seattle native and a successful athlete. The Rainier Beach High School pitcher was drafted in 2001 by the Texas Rangers during the MLB June Amateur Draft. ⚾️
DC Barden, Smiley, Officer Aaron Lucas, and Officer Michael Bateman each sat at a table with several youth, forming four small, culinary-crafting teams. Chef Yahya skillfully led the class through hand-made ramen noodles and from-scratch gyoza, creating a delicious lunch that was enjoyed by all. 🥟🍜🥣
The instruction was engaging and informative, and all had a fantastic time. 🥳
We love watching our grants come to life! Cooking with the Chief falls easily into “community partnerships,” which is one of the three primary funding areas of our grant program. 🤝

On December 7, 2023, Seattle Police Department K9 Frodo reached his one-year milestone. 🥳🎉
We stopped in down at the K9 Unit to get an update from his handler, Officer Spencer, and are happy to share that Frodo is working hard and doing great. 🐾💙🚓

Are you scrambling to figure out what day it is because you don’t have a 2024 calendar? 📆🤣
We’ve got you!
Our 2024 calendar features the police horses of the Seattle Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit, and gives some fun insight into each horse’s personality. We had such a great time creating this content as each horse is so unique, often with fun little quirks. The calendars are available for $25 each, and the proceeds support SPD's Photo Unit. 📸🎥

Happy New Year Friends! 🥳
We didn’t have much luck getting great photographs of the T-Mobile New Year’s at the Needle fireworks show, but fortunately our friend Rebbecca Peterson at Ambiance Images saved the day with this great shot from Kerry Park.
And while we may not have had luck getting great photos, we had lots of luck when it came to running into a few of our friends from SPD! 💙🚓
Truly, from the bottom of our hearts, the Seattle Police Foundation would like to thank the men and women of the Seattle Police Department for working hard this holiday season to help keep our city safe. As we were out and about last night, we ran into so many officers and PEOs (parking enforcement officers) working the events at the Seattle Center and Climate Pledge Arena.
We were profoundly grateful for their very visible presence.
Not only did they work late, but many had to be right back at work today to support the Winter Classic at T-Mobile Park.
Thanks to the Seattle Police Department, the Seattle Fire Department, the 911 call-takers and dispatchers at the Seattle CARE Department, and all the other first responders working to ensure that Seattle’s community members and guests rang in 2024 safely.
And thanks once more to Ambiance Images for the spectacular photo! 📸💥

Seattle Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit Barn Cat Katy Purry made the Seattle Animal Shelter's 2023 recap!!
We saw Katy Purry at the barn just a couple days before Christmas and she was having a wonderful time in the sandy arena. She's thriving in her new barn cat life and not only that, is excellent at her job. 🐀🚫 We're so grateful to SPD's Mounted Patrol Unit for giving this girl a new home and a new life.
Thanks Seattle Animal Shelter!! Happy New Year!
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗦𝗣𝗙 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀!! 💙🥰🎊🎉
Throughout 2023, we’ve remained focused on supporting the men and women of the Seattle Police Department by helping to provide the tools and training they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently. 💙🚓👮♀️
We've stood firmly in the gap between the City's public safety budget, and the City's public safety needs.
We’ve listened to patrol officers, sergeants, lieutenants, and command staff, as they’ve told us what they needed to make Seattle a safer city. Alongside that work, we’ve proactively sought projects that would have department-wide impact. 💯
We’re grateful for all of the many ways we’ve been able to provide for the law enforcement professionals of SPD and are even more grateful for the loyal supporters who make this work possible.😍Without the incredible generosity of our donors, none of this would happen. We’re so thankful! 🫶
To each and every person who donated in 2023: we see you and we thank you for your unwavering support. 🥰When you support the Seattle Police Foundation, you are supporting public safety in Seattle. 🎊🎉
Here are just a few of the things we’ve been able to accomplish thanks to our supporters📝:
