Now that the 2017-2018 school year has come to an end, UPPOW wanted to recognize these four students for their contribution not only to UPPOW but to the UWSOP and beyond!

November 2017 - Ananya Murali
Ananya sat on the Regional Nominating Committee and represented the goals and interests of the organization exceptionally well at the APhA Midyear Regional Meeting. She helped to create a succinct and informative summary of the agenda topics that were presented for chapter members at the meeting. We are fortunate that Ananya not only stepped up to this challenge, but went above and beyond in her participation.

January 2018 - Cindy Kang
Cindy did a great job helping UPPOW launch their the ASHP Mock Residency Interviews by helping with set-up for the event, directing students to their scheduled interviews, and answering any questions the pharmacists and students had. Her warm personality helped make everyone feel welcome and contributed to the success of the ASHP Mock Residency Interview event this year.

February 2018 - Maurice Tran
Maurice helped plan and execute WSPA’s Annual Legislative Day at the state Capitol. His contributions secured over $1000 in funding for transportation and food from Bartell Drugs and QFC. In order to help best prepare student participants that day, he headed to Olympia one day prior than the rest of students and faculty to meet individually with a lawmaker and assist with scheduling. His dedication to the success of the UWSOP legislative day this year was unparalleled and deserves recognition as such.

March 2018 - Tyrone Zhang
Not only did Tyrone compete and place in the top 10 for the local patient counseling competition on campus, he further served as our student representative for the University of Washington to participate in the national patient counseling competition held in Nashville, Tennessee for the APhA Annual Meeting. Our chapter could not be more proud of him. Tyrone embodies the spirit of competition and was excited to test his skills on the national level.

Over 40 organizations are signed up this year to provide screening and education to students and the public, all while rocking out to some music spun by a local DJ. The UW School of Pharmacy partners with the UW School of Medicine and the UW School of Dentistry at the Harambee Health Fairs focused on building health equity in underserved communities!

Wanting to liven up your early Spring Quarter? Do you enjoy fine dining, wine, and great energy packaged together in a luxurious venue? UPPOW is excited to invite you to join us in our Annual Auction this upcoming Friday April 6. Tickets cost $50 for students and Pharmacists so if you don't want to come alone bring along your fun group of friends or even your pharmacists to come along with you for a fantastic and fun-filled night of excellent dining, great views, and exhilarating generosity in support of UW School of Pharmacy Students. The venue and dining is hosted by Palisade Restaurant and will be running from 7-10pm on April 6. You can purchase tickets at www.uppow.org/auction. The theme is a Masquerade so we encourage guests bring masks to add to the fun theme we've catered to this year. UPPOW will be having its first Winter Quarter general meeting tomorrow, Monday, January 22nd from 12:30-1:20pm in room T625. PIZZA WILL BE PROVIDED and we will be raffling off a free UPPOW t-shirt (attendance is required to win). This is an important meeting if you plan on going to Legislative Day in Olympia as WSPA officers will be going over what to expect for Legislative Day and how your voice as a student pharmacist can impact legislation in the state of Washington. Also, UPPOW will be going over a few details about its Pharmacy School Winter Formal, Wingle, so if you’re interested in either of these two big events this quarter, come out to UPPOW’s General Meeting. We were ecstatic to welcome the incoming pharmacy class of 2021 at the annual Pharmer’s Market last week!
The new students had the opportunity to interact with pharmacists, student organizations and their peers.
This year we were fortunate to have 13 pharmacists speak about specialty pharmacy, the WSPA, collaborative practice, and investigational drug services, among many other exciting practice sites. Current UW school of pharmacy student organizations talked about the health care events they have to offer throughout the school year and ways to get involved. Last but not least, we had presentations on Senate Bill 5557, accessibility of birth control in the community pharmacy, and inspiration through leadership. We would like to thank Rite Aid for their continued sponsorship of the UPPOW Pharmer's Market, and extend our thanks to the generous pharmacists that volunteered their time to speak about their journey and profession at our roundtable!

The Unified Professional Pharmacy Organizations of Washington is proud to support its first health fair sponsored by the Cliff Avril Family Foundation! This foundation was started in March 2014 by Super Bowl Champion and beloved Seahawk Cliff Avril, to encourage healthy living through nutrition and exercise as well as promote educational awareness of Type 2 Diabetes in society. If you are interested in supporting this cause and would like to serve the local community alongside some of the Seattle Seahawks best, come out to volunteer with UPPOW and learn more about our upcoming event.

Ladan Mukherjee is a 1st year pharmacy student and is being recognized for her help throughout the Annual UPPOW Auction which provides reimbursement for students who travel to regional pharmacy conferences.

Hanna Kleiboeker is a 1st year pharmacy student and is being recognized for her contributions and coordinating for the upcoming UPPOW Interprofessional Health Fair on May 23rd.

David Ramos is a 2nd year pharmacy student and is being recognized for his role as the International Opportunities Chair in IPSF. He also hosted an International Exploration Seminar for students to learn about the different study abroad opportunities offered at UW.

Jenn Chou is a 2nd year pharmacy student and is being recognized for her assistance during Pharmacy Legislative Day where she coordinated transportation for over eighty pharmacy students.

Outreach, Outreach, Outreach!!!
The wait is over and the signup sheets are now open! UPPOW and the School of Pharmacy are proud to present the 1st UPPOW INTERPROFESSIONAL HEALTH FAIR. This event will be held in fabulous Red Square on Tuesday, May 23rd from 12pm to 4pm. We will be combining our skills with multiple schools within the health sciences such as, Nursing, PT, OT, Dental, Social Work, and Nutrition. In addition we are including multiple services from the surrounding community. So far over 25 different organizations! We have the privilege to serve UW students, staff, and the surrounding community including many homeless, all while rocking out to some awesome beats being spun by DJ Nicky Pax!
Signup now as it is first come first serve, we need lots of help doing setup, take down and of course during the event!
Services/organizations included (although Blood Glucose is still pending):
HIV screens, Hep C screens, vaccines, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, BP, med safety, OTC, ma*****na talk, diabetes pre-screens and info., sexual health, the IMA, Community Health Plan, Healthy Huskies, The WholeU, su***de prevention, dental hygiene, allergy information, medical travel and more!
