Educate Girls- Change the World: $10 keeps a girl in Nepal in school for a month. Learn, donate, share: www.consciousconnectionsfoundation.org What can $10 do?
It can buy you a lunch, or, it can help a girl in Nepal attend school for one month. That means that for 20 days a young girl is reading, writing, learning with her friends and stretching her imagination. When 10% more girls go to school, a country's GDP increases an average of 3%. What happens if she isn't in school? She is three times more likely to be married before her 18th birthday and she is

It was a huge success! Look for our upcoming blogpost about this work. We are so proud to be a part of this movement to help women and girls (and men) understand their power!

Ready, set, go!
Surprise! We are asking you for donations! THE TOTALLY AWESOME ATTWOOD TEAM IS BACK and we are running Bloomsday to raise funds for Conscious Connections Foundation- CCF and our work with Women and Girls in Nepal!
CCF has been busy! Last year we raised funds to:
1. keep 117 marginalized girls and boys in school,
2. educate 1170 women in remote areas of Nepal about Menstrual hygiene and how to care for their bodies
3. sew 1270 reusable menstrual hygiene kits to distribute to all participants in our Menstrual hygiene trainings
4. provide supplies and training for women to sew their own reusable menstrual pads
5. to build comfortable 2 shelters in the remote region of Baseri for families to stay while their loved ones are cremated
This year looks like we’ll be doing even more! We are small but we are mighty and we would love your support!
How’s it work? It’s easy. We’ll be running/walking on May 5 in the Bloomsday race in Spokane (Cameron is running virtually in South Africa) with signs on our backs saying we are running for girl’s education in Nepal. YOU sponsor our team to run and 100% of your donation goes to support CCF’s work in Nepal.
We’re asking folks to sponsor us for $3.35 a mile X 7.46 miles=$25.00 (or more if inclined).
$25 keeps a girl in school for 2.5 months, produces 3 reusable menstrual hygiene kits, or covers a woman to attend a 4 day training in menstrual hygiene.
Our team’s goal is to raise $800-$1000. If we get 32 people to sponsor us at $25.00 we’ll raise $800 if we get 40 people we’ll raise $1000! Please help us reach our goal.
Donate here on the Conscious Connections foundation Facebook fundraiser page or on our website at www.consciousconnectionsfoundation.org/donate or send a check to CCF at PO Box 342 Spokane, WA 99210.
We just need your donation before May 15th
How else can you help? Spread the word. Sshare this with your friends and let them know we want them on our team. Put a basket on your counter at work, or pass the basket at dinner with friends, if each gives even $10 we’ll get to our goal! THANK YOU and please visit our website and page to stay up to date. YOUR DONATION MATTERS! Huge Hugs, Denise & team

In place of a Cameron Norbu Attwood Conner's blog post this week, he is sharing an article that he recently co-authored with a fellow Organizer from Barcelona. It was just published by Nonprofit Quarterly Magazine! CONGRATS CAMERON!
This piece shares the story of how one community transformed a polluting cement factory into a center for civic life and a driving force behind local victories from paved roads and environmental protections to improved public transportation and community health.
Cameron Norbu Attwood Conners co-author, Mariona Soler Quintana grew up in this neighborhood and saw the impact of the transformation first hand. Our hope in writing this piece is to share what it was like growing up in the Ateneus of Barcelona and why these kinds of civic institutions are a vital part of a healthy democratic culture. Let us know your thoughts!
From Factory to Civic Powerhouse: Rebuilding Local Democracy in Barcelona - Non Profit News | Nonprofit Quarterly A community-based form of organization has helped rebuild the democratic culture in Barcelona. The principles undergirding this approach extend more broadly.
CCF has been busy working with our amazing partners in Nepal. Read about the recent Menstrual Hygiene Training that our partners at Drokpo Nepal did in the remote Tsum Valley! It was a huge success! Kesang Riinchen Denise Attwood Ganesh Himal Trading Cameron Norbu Attwood Conner Golie Jansen
Where there is magnificent beauty there is often great difficulty. The Upper Tsum Valley in Nepal is no exception. Renowned for its breathtaking scenery and rich cultural legacy nestled within the Himalayas, it also is home to isolated communities where women, in particular, endure significant hardships. There is little transportation except by foot, minimal health care and little education. Patriarchal structures are still in place, sanitary facilities are lacking and cultural taboos abide...read more

flashback to three Mighty Girls in Milwaukee who showed the power of role models in an inspiring photo shoot featuring the elementary school students dressed as their heroes from the hit film "Hidden Figures"! Morgan Coleman, Ambrielle-Baker Rogers and Miah Bell-Olson dressed up as Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson -- the three African American female mathematicians who played a pivotal role in the success of the early U.S. space program whose stories were told in the film. When the photo was shared on social media, it was widely praised including by the film's stars, Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae, and Octavia Spencer. When Henson, who plays Katherine Johnson in the film, shared the picture, she captioned it “I do what I do .”
The girls' photo was part of a Black History Month project created by their teacher Terrance Sims at Milwaukee College Prep. According to Jerrica Rogers, Abrielle-Baker’s mother, their teacher "wanted to create a series of posters that positively affirm the excellence of his students, as well as shine light on the beauty of African-American culture in preparation for Black History Month.” She says that her 8-year-old daughter, who dressed up as Dorothy Vaughn, who was played Octavia Spencer, adored the film. “It was so inspiring for both of us," she explained. "My daughter was locked in the entire time and quotes parts of the movie even to this day!” Rogers said that the experience of dressing up as their heroes -- and hearing such kind praise from the actresses who played them -- has been a powerful one for all three girls. “It is a beautiful thing to see three talented black women lead such an inspiring true story," she asserted. "I love the message it promotes, especially for young black girls. It gives them role models in a field where our representation is so low. It was just an awesome and empowering experience.”
The story of all three pioneering women is told in the inspiring picture book "Hidden Figures" for ages 5 to 9 at https://www.amightygirl.com/hidden-figures-picture-book
"Hidden Figures" has also been adapted into a Young Readers Edition for ages 8 to 13 at https://www.amightygirl.com/hidden-figures-young-readers -- or you can find the original book for teens and adults at http://amzn.to/2j3PS8k

In 2012 I made my first trip to Nepal. CCF didn’t exist, but the thirty year old relationships that are the heart of CCF did. Following the lead of Ric and Denise (founders of CCF and Ganesh Himal Trading), I navigated my way through Kathmandu. I remember the taste and smells of dal bhat and milk tea permeating as I met the numerous individuals whose heart and soul make our work in Nepal, work. I also met two young female recipients of the Association of Craft Producers’ (ACP) Girl Child Education Fund. https://www.consciousconnectionsfoundation.org/ccf-blog Cameron Norbu Attwood Conner Ganesh Himal Trading Denise Attwood Golie Jansen
2024 is starting off great for CCF thanks to all of your donations! We just sponsored a women's health and menstrual hygiene training of 121 girls and young women in Khadbari Nepal. In the training they learned about their bodies, received a reusable menstrual hygiene kit and learned how to make their own cloth pads. It was a huge success and a lot of fun! Thanks to Kesang, Igroom, The Lhomi women welfare fund, Chhing Lhomi, Samjhana Lhomi and Sumi Bhutia who all worked hard to make this happen!
