Creative Reaction Lab highlights Antionette Carroll and Maya Williams for their contributions to the upcoming book "An Anthology of Blackness: The State of Black Design" by editors Omari Abijah Souza & Terresa Moses.
Chapter 5: "Shattering Spaces of Othering: Building a Creative Culture of Creativity, Blackness, and Brown Power," explores the pervasive influence of white supremacy culture, ableism, devaluation, and othering in our society.
This influence, deeply ingrained within all of us, reflects in our actions, thoughts, and words, often unconsciously. To combat these harmful practices and redefine what is considered "normal" or "common sense," we must engage in an ongoing, challenging, and sometimes messy process of unlearning.

📍The Reimagining & Redesigning Tour
First stop Austin, TX!
Antionette Carroll was a Designer in Residence for a week in Mar 2023. At the conclusion, Antionette held a talk that focused on actionable steps for becoming a Redesigner for Justice.
Following that event, a private, intimate dinner with people from varying industries was held to begin discussing what sectors they felt what was needed to be reimagined and redesigned. Horror stories about their experiences in healthcare and in their workplaces were shared. Excellent examples of equity in action within education, where the child's individual needs were placed first, and whether or not the results could be replicated were discussed.
💭 Should equity in action in different industries be replicated? What does responsible scaling look like? Can it be equitable?
Just some of the questions to come out of this amazing conversation!
