Happy Why Greek Life Wednesday! Roslyn Gowens, Assistant Director for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., told us :
"I first went Greek to empower women, specifically Black women. There's a stereotype that you have to fit a certain standard to join these organizations, and one of the biggest reasons I joined my chapter was to fight against that stereotype and show people the real work that is happening within AKA. It gives me a platform to give back to the community and have an impact. I joined to make it easier for the next generation. I joined because my mentors did that for me — empowered me, protected me, encouraged me.
The Divine Nine is a powerhouse. It is like family wherever you go. You see those letters — any letters within the Divine Nine — and you automatically feel like someone in the room gets ME without even knowing who they are."

The 2021-2022 school year had many challenges to overcome, but our community is always able to rise to the occasion. We are so proud of our community and all the great programming they accomplished this year. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the 2022-2023 school year. Congratulations to all of the award recipients and to the class of 2022!!
Happy (Late) Why Greek Life Wednesday! Senior Kayla Harris, a member of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc., told us :
"I went Greek to step out of my comfort zone and find a community of people that shared common interests with me. I enjoy being a part of group of people that I can have fun with, but also do things such as community service."
Kayla's favorite part of the greek experience is, "connecting with people from various backgrounds and building relationships with people that I likely would not have come across if it wasn't for Greek life. Being a member of Greek life has provided me with so many opportunities to meet other people on campus and interact with various other organizations."

After five days of Panhellenic Recruitment, we are so happy to welcome those new members going through this process home! We are glad they were able to pick the chapter that was the best fit for them and look forward to seeing the leaders they become on their journey! Please help us welcome these new members to the FSL family!
Recruitment 2022 was a huge success!! Despite being ENTIRELY virtual, our Panhellenic membership came together to create an amazing space to welcome new members to our community. As our final day comes to a close, we can’t say how grateful we are for the resilience and flexibility within this group to not only completely restructure recruitment in less than two weeks, but also remain positive and committed to growing our organization. A huge shoutout to our Panhellenic recruitment team, each chapter’s recruitment chairs, and our recruitment counselors for their serious dedication throughout this whole process. We are so excited to welcome our new members and include them in our commitment to scholarship, philanthropy, and friendship within the Panhellenic Association!!
The GW Panhellenic Association has spent the last few weeks making a quick adjustment to pivot to virtual recruitment. During the first session of day one, guest speaker Tish Norman encouraged potential new members to bring their best selves to recruitment and even included a dance break.
We are proud of Panhellenic and their ability to adapt and can’t wait to welcome these new members to our community on Sunday!
Formal Recruitment applications have been extended until December 26th! Sign up now: link in bio.
