Spring has sprung. In Australia it has anyway!!
And for some of you that means allergies!
There are many natural solutions at hand, and the aim is to treat the cause and get rid of the symptoms long term!

Did you know anti histamines can affect your health if you take them for too long?

When you suppress the histamine production in your body long term, it can lead to many issues, but also to digestive issues. Histamine is needed to produce stomach acid and can lead to poor digestion of your food and therefore nutrients.

Histamine receptors are everywhere in the body, which means you can experience varied symptoms. It does not have to look like the typical hay fever!

Signs of high histamine or histamine intolerance include-

• Hay fever symptoms
• Itchy eyes, gritty eyes, red eyes runny nose and sneezing
• Asthma and wheezing
• Hives, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, acne
• Itchy skin and skin flushing
• Headaches ad migraines
• Racing heart

• Endometriosis, period pain, heavy menstrual bleeding

One big reason histamine can become high in the body, is because of digestive issues or imbalances. There could be impaired digestion, leaky gut, parasite or bacterial infections or an imbalance of the microbiome. Fixing gut issues can be a game changer for some even if you don’t have any digestive symptoms, it will be a contributing factor

Estrogen dominance and your thyroid, the common signs & symptoms - KATE DRIVER NATUROPATH 31/07/2023

Heavy periods, hormonal issues, migraines, mood swings, weight gain…. are you estrogen dominant ?

Or do you have an underactive thyroid ………or both?
Estrogen dominance is common in women of all ages, but can also be a problem in perimenopause ad menopause.
Progesterone drops rapidly during perimenopause which can make you estrogen dominant .
Estogen and progesterone need to be in a certain ratio.
As your ovaries start shutting down, we release less eggs and ovulate less. Which means progesterone drops. This can be exacerbated by stress and high cortisol ( stress, lack of sleep, inflammation)
Estrogen is produced by the ovaries in reproductive years, and in menopause the fat tissue, muscle, DHEA from the adrenal glands .
It can be re-absorbed through the digestive system and women become dominant in estrogen when they are clearing the excess properly.
Excess estrogen slow the thyroid function down and contributes to a underactive thyroid.
The symptoms you may experience when you have a sluggish thyroid may include-
• Fatigue
• Weight gain
• Hot flushes
• Insomnia
Causes of estrogen dominance-
• Poor liver function
• Gene polymorphisms (MTHFR and COMT)
• Poor gut elimination
• Low thyroid function
• Exposure to xeno-estrogens
• High histamines – allergies or in foods. (more sensitive through menopause)

YOUR GUT IS AN ENDOCRINE GLAND !
An endocrine gland is a hormone producing gland such as the ovaries and adrenals.

Your gut bacteria helps produce–
✅Estradiol – the protective estrogen
✅90% of Serotonin production ! Serotonin is one of your happy hormones and its also regulates appetite, sleep, mood and temperature .

Your gut bacteria regulates
✅Melatonin – which regulates our circadian rhythm and sleep cycle
✅Dopamine – all about rewards / addictions
✅Grehlin – your hunger hormone, if your gut bacteria is off you will eat more!

Your gut bacteria
✅Metabolise & excretes bad estrogens
Increase stress hormones (adrenaline & nor-adrenaline)
✅Influence your thyroid hormones & thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)

The gut bacteria regulates estrogens through an enzyme called beta glucaronidase.
