Established in 1956, Box Hill Hospital is the largest of our acute hospitals admitting more than 48,000 patients each year. We provide a wide range of healthcare services including: emergency care, general and specialist medicine, intensive care, mental health services for children, adolescents and adults, maternity services, post-acute care programs, surgery, teaching and research. We are a university teaching hospital affiliated with Monash, La Trobe and Deakin Universities.
Due to the continuing increase in COVID-19 cases and recent outbreaks. We have made the difficult and considered decision to re-introduce visitor restrictions.
We are aware of the challenges patients and their loved ones may have as a result of these restrictions. However, we are still making every effort to protect our patients, carers, visitors and our staff.
You can help reduce the spread and thus, allow visitor restrictions to be reduced again by getting vaccinated, wearing a mask (even when you don't have to) and practising physical distancing where you can.

Maria is a volunteer Welcome Ambassador at Box Hill Hospital and helps patients find their way when they visit the hospital. Due to pandemic restrictions, our volunteers haven't been able to provide care to patients for almost two years.
“It’s important to realise that volunteers are part of care, each and every person has a role to play in patient care, from security, reception, nurses to medical staff, we’re all here to help patients have the best possible experience they can.”

Proud parents Jacinta and Reece welcomed twins Zane and Zion in Eastern Health's dedicated COVID-19 Maternity Ward.
The unique ward provides birthing, postnatal care and a special care nursery for mothers who have tested positive to COVID-19.
"If I didn’t have this service, I wouldn’t have been able to see my twins until after my 14-day quarantine was over. This service has allowed my husband to come into the birthing suite with me even though he tested negative and has allowed us to be together when we needed it the most."

Whether working for the Australian Defence Force or as an ICU Clinical Nurse at Eastern Health, Lieutenant Bart Arundell was clearly born for a life of service.
“I feel like I’m at a home away from home when I’m with the Defence Force, and same when I’m back at nursing because I’m around like minded people.”
Lieutenant Arundell sees a lot of commonalities between his colleagues in the Health sector and the Defence Force.
Congratulations to the Stroke Team at Box Hill Hospital, for achieving a median door to needle time of under 60 minutes (one of only two hospitals in Australia to do so).

Although COVID-19 has prevented our 700 Volunteers being with us as usual, we're taking the opportunity to look back on the incredible contribution they make to the care we provide.
