Easier Bending, Sitting Down & Standing up - improving these vital functions at Feldenkrais for Seniors Classes at PCYC
NEW Feldenkaris for Seniors class at PCYC in St Kilda!
Every Tuesday 11am- 11.40am. Walk-ins welcome!
Zoom - THURSDAY 6PM [Melbourne-Australia Time]
See Saw of Chest & Bell for a responsive Lower Back
I've chosen a relaxing lesson done on the back, for a later evening class, to sooth mind & body at the end of the day and for a better sleep.
Dr Feldenkrais recommended doing his movement lessons before going to bed, when the mind is not preoccupied with the everyday chores and can focus on sensations that touch another level of consciousness.
Just make sure you not to eat a big meal, so it doesn't weigh you down ;)
I'm proud to be part of the teaching staff in Seoul 2 - Professional Feldenkrais Training Course. Well done to all the students who have finished their second year and can now teach Feldenkrais group classes to the public, in South Korea and worldwide!

The Chest as a Piazza
https://senseinmotion.com/product/the-chest-as-a-piazza/
The chest as a meeting place for many parts, from which you can move in many directions, just like in the Italian piazzas. The analogy of the chest as a piazza comes from my esteemed Feldenkrais trainer Anat Krivine.
I taught two classes today, at St Kilda Sea Baths and on Zoom, that used this concept to introduce movement in the chest, through rotation, bending and pressing – all done very gently of course. A mobile chest improves posture, walking and all other actions.

As a gift for the fast-approaching holidays, I’d like to share an Audio Movement Lesson with you - in the link above.
This 36-minute Feldenkrais lesson will take you far away from the noise and deep into yourself.
You’ll wake up feeling more stretched and relieved of much of your tension.
During the lesson, you’ll be doing very gentle rotations in side-lying, with attention centred on the length of the spine and the mobility of the chest.
You’ll understand better how pain is deeply linked to body-image and movement patterns and how to change it through your thoughts.
You’ll feel how with the right tools, paying close attention can make real and lasting changes in our body and mind. So, remember to work gently if you want to achieve a change!
Enjoy and keep in touch for more gifts and updates: https://senseinmotion.com/

Here’s a ~14-minute lesson to regain mobility with your head-spine & shoulders. You’ll be lying on the sides with the legs folded.
Within a few moments, you’ll learn to improve the bending of the spine and lift your head more easily and skillfully, which means that you’ll acquire more than one way for performing the same action.

Pay attention to your Feet - Audio Lesson
https://senseinmotion.com/audio-lessons-2/
Last Friday I taught a lesson focused on a much neglected yet crucially important part of our body for balanced standing and walking: the feet.
This lesson introduces differentiations between the foot and other body parts, such as the knees, hip joints, head and eyes and shows how enhanced control of the foot improves the mobility of the head.
FREE AUDIO SAMPLE
Take a break and try this free sample of a Feldenkrais audio lesson that helps to relieve tension in the back, bring mobility in areas of the spine that tend to be forgotten and open the chest and shoulders.
This sample is 14 minutes long. The full lesson is 30 minutes long. If you'd like to do the whole lesson, you can click on the link below to join my newsletter and receive more lessons and updates.

Monday & Wednesday 6pm (Melbourne time)
Find the differences
https://senseinmotion.com/feldenkrais-zoom-page/
This week we will bring our attention to the feet and the use of our legs.
I chose this image because it shows interesting differences between the three pairs of feet & legs that belong to three different age groups.
Both Monday & Wednesday lessons will make use of the ingenious means that Dr Feldenkrais created to improve coordination, by working with awareness, that is, using our voluntary thought and control in movement. The changes can then expand to other body areas and to a new feeling of ourselves.
I look forward to seeing you at class :)
Thursday 6pm - Zoom Class
Concentric Circles
https://senseinmotion.com/feldenkrais-zoom-page/
Our next Zoom class this week will be on Thursday 6pm.
The lesson will be done in side-lying,
to enable access to the four highly mobile points around the trunk area: the hip joints and shoulders.
Prepare a folded blanket or some flat wide cushions to use as props.
I look forward to seeing you at class :)
Changed Timetable This Week
Monday & Thursday 5pm
https://senseinmotion.com/feldenkrais-zoom-page/
I'm going to work overseas again this week,
and will be [physically] away for three weeks;
BUT, I will continue running classes on Zoom,
albeit at a different timetable.
I will notify you of the timetable at the beginning of each week till my return.
This week, I will run Monday class at 5pm as usual.
I will run another class this Thursday at 5pm - Melbourne time,
instead of the Friday morning class.
I hope you can join one or both classes this week.
Monday 5pm - Shoulders & Hip Joints
https://senseinmotion.com/feldenkrais-zoom-page/
On Monday class we'll bring the attention to the shoulders and how they contribute to the ability to extend. The objective is to work the back muscles along the whole spine and not only in the lower back, a common pattern of action that often results in unpleasant tension and pain.
We can't organise the shoulders without looking at the chest and hips: also the ability of the hip joints to extend depends on the availability of the pelvis and back, and vice versa, the back and chest cannot work efficiently with tight hip joints.
The position will be mainly lying on the stomach. If you cannot lie in this position due to a medical issue or for any other reason, I will guide you how to work in a different position.
I look forward to seeing you at class :)

Exploring the Floor with the Hand
Friday 10.30am Zoom Class
https://senseinmotion.com/feldenkrais-zoom-page/
Find a place on the floor where you can comfortably stretch your arms to the sides. This is the width you will need for this Friday lesson.
The lesson will be done lying on the side and on the back. You will explore the floor with one hand and find how to make the movement bigger, smoother and easier.
From these explorative movements on the plane of the floor we will find connections with the development of spatial perception also in standing.
If you are able to lie on your side then this lesson is suitable even if you have operated shoulders or injuries to the area.
If you're interested in improving your stability, visit my Audio Shop to do a lesson about the alignment of the legs and how it impacts stability.
Alignment of the legs - Sense in Motion
https://senseinmotion.com/product/alignment-of-the-legs/
How do you feel about your stability? Are you comfortable standing on two legs? how about on one leg? Would you be stable walking on a narrow beam up in the air?
Try a lesson that takes a glimpse at what composes an important part of our alignment and how that influences our stability.
The main relationship to explore in this lesson is between the legs and the pelvis. The one impacts the other. A stiff pelvis will prevent a free movement of the hip joints. Stiff legs with poor alignment will impact the mobility and direction of the pelvis.
The movement of the arms and shoulder girdle will reflect the gradual improvements in the lower part of the body.
You will lie on the back and for a short while also on the stomach.
Friday 10.30am Class - Alignment & Stability
How do you feel about your stability respect to the image of the famous Pisa tower?
I don't know about you, but each time I look at Pisa, I feel a subtle urge to push it into alignment, as if to relieve it from its efforts.
When it comes to us, as dynamic systems with mobile structures, pushing us to be straighter just doesn't work! yet, who hasn't experienced these repetitive and futile attempts from their family and teachers to re-align us with words or a firm pull or push. We try to stand or sit straight but after a short while we go back to our habits and slouch or lean out of the centre.
This coming Friday I will teach a lesson that takes a glimpse at what composes an important part of our alignment and how that influences our stability.
You will lie on the back and for a short while also on the stomach.
I look forward to seeing you at class

Keep Rollin' - Part II
Friday 10.30am Zoom Class
This Friday morning we'll continue with the theme of the week,
improving the ability to roll on the floor, this time in a different orientation.
The lesson will focus on what is required for easier rolling,
with softer and fuller participation of the chest and a longer back.
Friday 29th August @ 10.30am Zoom class: Ankles, Head & Elbows
This lesson is done mainly on the stomach. For those who can't, you can do the lesson lying on the back.
We'll continue integrating the movements of the ankles and feet to the movements of the head, but also the elbows will be called in.
You'll also feel what your breathing has to do with the connection between all these body parts.
