World MS Day 30th June 2024

World MS Day is an international awareness day for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS).The theme for World MS Day 2024-2025 is “DIAGNOSIS”. We need to advocate for early and accurate diagnosis for everyone living with MS.

What is MS:

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Today, an estimated 2.9 million people around the world have MS.
MS is an inflammatory demyelinating condition. It is caused by damage to myelin – a fatty material that insulates our nerves. In MS, the loss of myelin affects the way nerves send electrical impulses to and from the brain. Symptoms can include blurred vision, weak limbs, tingling sensations, unsteadiness, memory problems, and fatigue.
Every five minutes someone, somewhere in the world is diagnosed with MS.

Some Ways Exercise Physiology can benefit you

o Maintain mobility and sometimes independence
o Manage your symptoms including spasticity, stiffness, pain and anxiety
o Improve your strength
o Improve sleep and mental health.
o Enhance muscle activity through Hydrotherapy using the buoyancy of water
o Tailored individual gym sessions

In the spirit of Exercise Right Week and its theme "Just Move," it's quite often we hear what exercise can I do?

Well there are countless creative ways to stay active and boost your health. Why not transform mundane moments into opportunities for movement?

Turn a work meeting into a brisk walk, or dance like no one's watching during a quick break. Household chores can double as a calorie-burning session, and taking the stairs adds an extra burst of activity to your day. Engage in a playful chase with your kids or pets, or unwind with a leisurely bike ride. Even during TV time, commercial breaks become mini-workouts with squats and jumping jacks. Explore local trails, tend to your garden, or simply stretch out morning and night. With these fun and simple ideas, you'll find it's easy to keep moving and stay healthy all week long.

Keep moving people!

Exercise Right Week 💪

Exercise Right Week is about creating awareness for safe exercise; inspiring all Australians to be healthier and more active.

Whether you’re suffering from an injury, battling something bigger like cancer, dementia or diabetes, or you just want to up your fitness game, it’s important to get the right advice from an Exercise Physiologist to ensure you’re exercising right.

This year’s theme is “JUST MOVE”. It's about breaking down barriers, debunking myths, and providing the tools and knowledge needed to make exercise accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Moving for 30 minutes a day can make a significant difference to your health and well-being. Over the course of the week we will be sharing different ways in which you can move!

Today we will focus on HYDROTHERPY 🏊‍♂️
Hydrotherapy is conducted within a heated pool to target and treat a wide spectrum of conditions.
This may include, but not limited to – osteoarthritis, general joint pain, pre/post operational rehab, neurological conditions, fibromyalgia or general fitness and wellbeing.

Exercise is performed within warm water, a safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment.

Hydrotherapy is significantly different from normal swimming and aqua aerobics. Exercise is performed within the warm water and tailored for each client to address their discussed goals. Hydrotherapy is often less strenuous than land-based exercises, focusing on guided, controlled, pain–free movements with the ultimate goal of providing pain relief. It’s a great form of low injury- risk exercise.

Hydro can aid in but not limited to;
Circulation
Reduce Inflammation
Reduce Blood Pressure
Reduces Pain Enabling Exercise
Improves Longer-Term Circulatory Efforts
Improves balance and reduces falls risk
Reduce Stress
Reduces muscle aches and tightness

Reach out to one of the Resolve staff members to find out how you can join into our Hydrotherapy classes!

World menopause day ❤️

Did you know that there is a World Menopause Day and today is that day!?
We didnt know there was such a day until today!
Now we know these days there seems to be a day for everything, but we felt we needed to highlight this one.
As a gym that has an instructing and staffing team that are generally 'of that age', as well as many of our members who are potentially going through this phase of life, we wanted to give a big fat virtual hug to you all 🥰
As with everything, menopause affects each individual very differently. However, what we also know is that it helps to look after your mental and physical health and offer understanding and support to each other.
How can we do this? We would love to hear your thoughts. Maybe a private Facebook group where people can give their tips and experiences, as well as connect? Newsletter tips each month?
Give us your ideas/thoughts...and Happy Menopause Day!!

Whether it’s doing some exercise, taking time out or cooking a healthy meal, or just hanging out with mates, veterans’ health week is the perfect opportunity to get back into your healthy habits of doing the things that make your mind and body feel good and energised.

What are you going to do to kick start your healthy habits?

Here at Resolve we really love supporting our veteran community and would love to hear from you!

This October our Exercise physiologist Amy Ross is raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctors. She will be riding 200km over the month.

Australia is a waiting room of 7.69 million square kms and for those living in rural and remote areas, access to immediate heath care is difficult and not always guaranteed. For some communities and stations the nearest hospital is over a 6 hour drive.

Since 1928 the RFDs have provided crucial services for those people living in regional, rural and remote areas whether it’s a life-threatening injury, inter-hospital transfer, GP, dental or mental health clinician, the RDF provide ongoing world class care for those in need.
RFDs have more than 1000 patient contacts daily, reaching approx 330,000 every year.

Together we can keep the Royal Flying doctors flying to continue their necessary support and lifesaving work.

If you would like to donate please click the link below or have a chat to Amy.

R U OK?Day
Today is the day where we remind Aussies that every day is the day to ask “ARE YOU OKAY?”, but also taking the time to listen to the answer.
We want to encourage people to stay connected and have that tricky conversation that may just help someone who is having a tough time.
Let’s all work together to create a supportive environment for mental health
When you’re in the gym next take a look at what people have written down that helps their mental health, add your own and maybe try a few out

DONT FORGET TO WARM UP!!

An adequate warm up can;

o Raise core body temp: This allows for tissues surrounding the joints to loosen, increasing range of motion. The rise in muscle temperature improves flexibility and increases the efficiency of movement during your workout.

o Mitigate risk of injury: Muscles can become tight and constricted after sedentary periods. It’s important to increase blood flow to the muscles so that during exercise there is less chance of tear, painful twisting or ripping.

o Improve joint mobilisation: Dynamic warm up is a perfect way to achieve this. It can ease your joints into full range thus preparing muscles for movements.

o Prime the nervous system: Warming up primes the connections between your nerves and muscles which improves efficiency of movement and improves performance.
