I wrote this text from my heart and shared it in a girls facebook travel group in 2021. It has now been almost 3 years since my solo-trip adventure! You'll even see the timestamp on the 3rd photo...I used to read other inspiring stories of the women in the group sharing their travel adventures...
Until the day that I decided to create an opportunity to experience my own "Eat, Pray, Love" journey! (One of my absolute favorite movies!) ๐๐๐ฝโค๏ธ
I remember writing that text with such inner peace and satisfaction. Not for external validation, but for external celebration! That is how I knew I am on a path of self-love. When your behaviors aren't to show off, but to inspire and celebrate. ๐
I knew I wanted to solo-travel but had MAJOR fear around the unknown and doing things alone. Solo-travel taught me we are way more capable than we think and that the fear dissipates with each experience...or you just decide to do it while you're afraid and figure it out lol. ๐
I can write so much more about this topic, but for now I'll reflect my introspection back to you...what does the journey of "finding yourself" look like? How do you define finding yourself? Would/have you solo-traveled?
You know when you underestimate yourself and then something good happens and you doubt if it is a mistake because your insecurities start invading your mind?
That is how I felt when I received this email...I thought, "is this legit? Is this a scam?" And then I went on the website and saw my name is truly on the nominee list for the ๐โจ๏ธ2024 ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐ฌ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐จ ๐๐๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ผ๐ฌ๐๐ง๐๐จ ๐๐ค๐ง "๐๐ช๐ฉ๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐ค๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ง".โจ๏ธ๐

I was telling a close friend of mine ( Shakti Leroy's Green River Yoga Studio ) about my unresolved joint pain and previous heartaches & resentment I continue to carry. โค๏ธโ๐ฉน
She looked me in the eyes and asked me "who would you be without itโ๏ธ". I had to pause for a moment...because Wow, what a beautiful and striking question.
I would not be a victim. I would be free. I would dance more. Laugh more. Believe in myself more. I would be who God wants me to be.
I have not forgotten her question since she asked me 3 months ago and have been wanting to share this question with you ever since.
I strongly believe in emotional stress being stored in our physical bodies and the power of subconscious awareness and self-development work to help improve physical and emotional pain. ๐๐ฝ You can do all the physical work, but if you do not address your psyche, spirit and emotions, there will always be a missing piece to your healing process. ๐งฉ

I used to be addicted to sugar and pastries. My body NEEDED it to function and have energy (even if I would crash with fatigue short after and the cycle continued). It wasn't just a desire for the food, it was an INTENSE CRAVING. A requirement.
โณ๏ธIt is only a few years later, once I became a holistic nutritionist, that I understood what my symptoms and cravings meant. I understood that my body was lacking some nutrients, my gut health was poor and my emotional wellness was turbulent...fast forward to today where I can confidently say I do NOT crave sugar. I enjoy sweets and food but I do not REQUIRE pastries for energy.

โ๏ธYou have alot more power than you think when it comes to your health. You are NOT always a victim to your genes, but you can be a victim to your lifestyle.

Let's talk BOUNDARIES. I know you need it.
When someone treats you like $hit, your entire sympathetic nervous system gets stimulated (your stress response).
Ask yourself:
Do I feel disrespected with this personโ๏ธ
Do I feel misunderstood/they make assumptions & accusations about meโ๏ธ
Do I feel unsafe voicing my opinions and feelings with themโ๏ธ
Do they jump to conclusions, attack me or invalidate my experiencesโ๏ธ
Do they make me feel like I'm "too much" "too sensitive" or "exagerrating"โ๏ธ
LISTEN. You are allowed to feel the way you feel. When someone else minimizes that, it's because THEY are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with this territory.
What you tolerate in your life is what will continue to grow. ๐ฑ Take accountability for your own actions and blind spots, and where you might be playing a toxic role...but also, are you allowing unhealthy patterns in your lifeโ๏ธ Where can you take responsibility โ๏ธ

Because distracted eating can cause:
โ๏ธ bloating & gas
โ๏ธ heartburn
โ๏ธ constipation
โ๏ธ reduced nutrient absorption
โ๏ธ make you feel more tired
โ๏ธ confusing your parasympathetic nervous system

A poor diet, high in refined and processed foods can be a cause for nutrient depletions/deficiencies.๐ BUT you can be eating all the right foods, and STILL feel symptoms of low energy and poor mental health. ๐ง
It can depend on many factors (see slide #4)โฌ๏ธ but we need to ensure you are not only eating a diverse diet, but that you are digesting and ABSORBING the nutrients properly.
OH, and just because your blood test came back normal, you can still be depleted of certain nutrients.

Hippocrates is known as "the father of medicine" and believed all disease starts in the gut.
Do you feel there is truth to this? How's your gut doing?
Did you know your gut health impacts your mental health? (This is called the gut-brain axis) ๐ง
Digestion starts with your eyes! ๐ or actually, in your brain ๐ง it depends lol.
When you see a plate of attractive food๐, your eyes relay the message to your brain๐ง which then makes your mouth start to water๐คค to begin the digestion process.
Same thing applies when you THINK about food๐ญ, or even smell ๐food.
โจ๏ธ This is why THE ESTHETICS OF YOUR FOOD IS IMPORTANT. โจ๏ธ
There is something subconscious that happens when we put intention behind what we eat and how we present it. Your relationship with food becomes more fun & exciting; your relationship with yourself becomes nourishing.
The whole social media trend of showing off our food is a perfect example of that!

1) I'm left handed ๐๐ฝ (anyone else?)
2) I speak 4 languages (try to guess in the comments which ones) โฌ๏ธ
3) I studied Spanish for about a decade (all levels in high school + a minor in Spanish during University) ๐๐ฝ
4) I entered a beauty pageant TWICE ๐
(1st time was to push outside my comfort zone and gain self confidence regardless of what any judge would say, 2nd time because I wanted to measure my growth since the 1st time)...quite unconventionally too as I had red hair the 1st time and short hair the 2nd time.
5) I have been dealing with chronic pain (but just starting to be open about it)
6) I'm a director for a local non-profit mental health organization on a volunteer basis ๐ง ๐จ
7) I am currently gluten & dairy free (for a gut-healing self-protocol). Oh, and no I'm not vegan, alot of people assume all nutritionists are vegan. ๐
8) I don't like the way of life in North America. (I am grateful for the life I was given but alot of values in the west do not align with me - a whole topic).
9) My dream is to host transformative & healing wellness retreats in warm climates. (Would you attend? ๐)
10) I got certified to teach zumba but never even taught a class in my life! ๐ฅฒ๐ต

Have you ever heard of leaky gut โ๏ธ
It's when your gut lining becomes damaged and the permeability decreases (meaning the gut barrier becomes "leaky" like a broken filter letting anything pass through without proper breakdown). โ๏ธ
This can cause sensitivities, deficiencies, toxicities, malabsorption...I can go on.

I see so many people ignore and push aside their own health issues, simply because it overwhelms them so they CHOOSE to do nothing about it and let it get worse.๐คฏ
Talk about self-sabotage? I do believe we can be our own biggest enemy...๐
So you waited until things got worse and then you just bask in your misery? The pain is too hard to carry...
It doesn't have to be that way as long as you decide to be BRAVE and operate from faith instead of fear.
Take responsibility for yourself. Ask your baby self if they are proud of you right now? ๐ถ๐ฝ It sounds silly but talking to your baby self will make you realize how poorly you might be treating yourself.
What is coming up for youโ๏ธ I know it's easy to push it aside and it takes time, money and effort to fuel our health...but you gotta pick one. Are you dedicated to your growth or are you dedicated to your fears?

I haven't really told anyone...about my pain.
I have been struggling with recurrent joint pain that drains me of my happiness. ๐
The docs don't really know what's wrong and assume possible but not definitive diagnosis, which leaves me feeling even more helpless.
As I look for holistic solutions (as I am determined to reverse & recover) today, I realized that a part of this pain is from emotional repression. ๐ฎ๐ซ
The emotional root of my pain is being expressed physically as a cry for attention...from those years I felt given up on & going through my deep dark depressions alone (or what felt like alone).
My body (& soul) is telling me it requires attention, affection, and care.
That is a part of my story...to anyone managing chronic pain, I am here with you ๐๐ฝ๐ซ

The medical system failed me.
๐๐ฝ Because my symptoms were not deemed critical
๐๐ฝ Because all my bloodwork and tests came back "normal"
๐๐ฝ Because these issues are so common and considered "normal"
๐๐ฝ Because I looked "fine" and the doctors believed they knew my body better than me
Unfortunately, this happens often. And while I fully believe the medical system has it's place, I am a witness and victim of it's failure.
โ๏ธOnce I entered the world of natural medicine, I discovered that I had subclinical conditions which needed to be addressed. (I was not crazy! LOL)
โ๏ธMy thyroid, hormones, adrenals, emotions, and mental health were all off-balance.
