Though rare, there have been reports of cases of meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia at universities, and they can be very serious.

If you are under the age of 25, you should make sure you have received your free MenACWY vaccination.

You can check if you are up-to-date with your vaccinations by contacting your GP surgery, who can also arrange for you to receive them if needed. If you are not currently registered with a GP, our partner surgery Amersham Vale Practice can adminster vaccinations once you have registered as a patient with them.

If you or someone you know feels unwell, make sure you tell someone and follow NHS advice.

London, the south-east and parts of eastern England were placed into Tier 4: Stay at Home, on Sunday morning as a result of a sharp spike in infections with a new, faster-spreading variant of Covid-19 thought to be the cause. It is vital that we all follow these new rules to help prevent the spread of the virus, protect our loved ones, our communities and help shield the NHS. For all those currently living in a Tier 4 area, you must stay in your current accommodation and follow the new Tier 4 rules on socialising and travel.

Under Tier 4 you should stay at home wherever possible, with travel for education among the allowed exceptions for leaving home.

Those of you living within Goldsmiths Halls of Residence have been contacted separately by our Accommodation team regarding arrangements and support in our Halls.

*Planning for Spring term*

https://www.gold.ac.uk/staff-students/info/coronavirus/term/

This is a fast-moving and serious situation with the new strain of Covid-19 providing a fresh challenge in controlling the virus.
As it stands, the government continues to make clear that universities, alongside schools and colleges, should remain open to support learning with mass testing a key part of enabling this. Students are therefore strongly encouraged to book an NHS Covid-19 test in the Great Hall as they start using campus in 2021

At the moment, campus is planned to reopen after the Christmas break on 4 January 2021 and details regarding the different dates which programmes are planned to return to face to face study can be found here. The College will continue to monitor the situation over the Christmas break and should these plans change we will inform students as soon as possible.

*Staying well*

Living through this pandemic is challenging for everyone, and feeling lonely or anxious is completely normal. It is important to remind yourself that this will not last forever, but in the meantime, there are a few things you can do to help you cope:
Be proactive and check in with friends regularly, making good use of digital platforms to chat with friends and family.
*Share your feelings with somebody you trust.
*Do more things you enjoy.
*Pursue a hobby, learn a new skill or join free online courses.
*Help others by volunteering from home.
*Reach out and join an online community.

The NHS Every Mind Matters website has more details on how to do these things.

https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/every-mind-matters/

A reminder that through the Christmas break there are online events and opportunities arranged which students are welcome to join and we have put together a list of articles, websites, apps and podcasts that will help get you get that much-needed downtime, which can all be found on our webpage.

You can also get support from Goldsmiths' Wellbeing advisers. These are professional practitioners who will be happy to give you the help you may need to overcome personal, emotional or mental health issues.

If you simply feel like having a chat or sharing anything that may be worrying you, you can get in touch with a Goldsmiths Campus Support Officer (CSO). The CSOs availability is listed on our Christmas at Goldsmiths page and any student is welcome to contact them.

Kind regards and stay safe,

Goldsmiths, University of London

Departure dates for end of 2020 26/11/2020

To help those of you who want to travel to your main place of residence for the Christmas break, the UK government has created a Student Travel Window of Thursday 3 to Wednesday 9 December 2020.

The government has asked universities to stagger the departure dates of students. Goldsmiths has worked to create a designated travel date for each student, organised according to the requirements and size of your programme.

Travelling during this time will help prevent the spread of Covid-19 and means that you can get tested on campus before you make your journey.

Against Sexual Violence 25/11/2020

Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence – the human rights campaign that calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

Sexual violence disproportionately impacts women and other marginalised genders, however anyone can be a perpetrator of sexual violence and anyone can be targeted.

To mark 16 Days, Goldsmiths Students' Union is hosting a series of events as part of our aim to end sexual violence in all its forms. These events are for all survivors of sexual violence and everyone who wants to support them.

Against Sexual Violence Running from International Day Against Violence Against Women (25th November) and International Human Rights Day (10th December), 16 Days is an international campaign that calls for the elimination of all forms of gender-based violence against women.
