Suro College Entrance Exam Review, Suro for short, is a project of UP Namnama catered to graduating senior high school students. It is a series of lectures, practice examinations, seminars, and career talks to prepare young Ilocanos for their entrance tests in their prospective degrees and schools. Prepared by UP students, we offer these at a very cheap price of ₱500 for the review kit, review sessions, and mock examinations, and ₱250 for the review kit alone!

Suro will be held simultaneously in four provinces (Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Abra) from July 1 to July 6, 2024.

Ang Suro ay isang proyekto ng UP Namnama para sa mga magsisipagtapos na mag-aaral ng senior high school. Magkakasunod ito na lectures, practice examinations, seminars, at career talks para maihanda ang mga kabataang Ilocano sa kanilang mga entrance tests sa mga tinatamasa nilang kurso at paaralan. The struggle of the country’s labor sector persists!

Today and beyond, the University of the Philippines (UP) Namnama honors the toils and sacrifices of those who dedicated their lives in building and shaping our nation. We stand in solidarity with millions of Filipino laborers who advocate the fight for the rights and privileges that they rightfully deserve. We are one with the toiling masses in their struggle for higher, livable wages and humane working conditions, united in our pursuit of genuine industrial reforms that puts at the forefront the well-being and survival of every Filipino above the profits of the ruling class. We enjoin them in calling upon the national government to heed the calls of the labor sector and enact systemic reforms that safeguard the rights of all employees across professions.

Every May 1 should be more than a tokenistic commemoration of the world’s laborers; it should be a day where our struggle for a just, fair, and humane environment for every worker becomes louder than ever. Our country stands on the blood, sweat, and tears of the working class, and it is high time to value them as the backbone of our society rather than exploited for profit.

The 40th Cordillera Day has been successfully held last April 23 & 24 in Tanglag, Lubuagan, Kalinga. However, our celebration doesn’t end there! We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate the Baguio leg of Cordillera Day on April 28, 4 pm at Court A, University of the Philippines Baguio.

This 20th of April 2024 (Saturday), from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon, at CSS Bldg. Room 101, the POLIS-UPB of Department of Economics and Political Science UP Baguio will commence Sining Pampulitika (SiPul), a film-viewing activity, which would feature Clint Taynan (2021)’s “The Scaffold Farmer.”

A tribute for farmers, this film coincides with this year’s theme for SiPul: ‘Past to Present, Philippine Injustice and Inequality.’ In this short film, the focus is centered on a scaffold farmer and the battles he faces within. He grapples with the challenges of putting one foot in the door of encouraging prospective experimental and urban farmers and the other foot in the door of becoming criminals in order to survive. Although he experiences a test of himself and his humanity, ultimately, the film encapsulates what inequalities and injustices do to marginalized communities and how they eventually push people at their limits. Additionally, this film showcases the situation and conditions of farmers in the Philippines.
