CoMIS 2024, University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management, Minneapolis, MN
Two weeks ago, Wei Ning Yong, Dylan Peh Ze Rong, Prof. Anand Ramchand and I were very lucky to spend 6 days in Minneapolis for CoMIS 2024, a case competition with a focus on Management Information Systems.
As NUS Information Systems (IS) majors, we were pitted against immensely talented peers from Canada, Europe and of course the US, emerging as finalists among 12 teams! The 24-hour deliberation (case preparation) followed closely by another 7 hours of presentations (see pictures of us in our smartest outfits) was no mean feat, and I'm really proud to have been able to emerge as finalists with the team (top 5!), under Prof. Anand's guidance.
We undoubtedly had a blast, getting to interact with students from (but definitely not limited to) the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics, the University of Manitoba, Iowa State University, and of course the University of Minnesota (hi there new friends!). We also got to watch the crowd-stopping performances and presentations of excellent speakers from all competing schools, and learnt so much more about the work that goes into the brilliant solutions and deliveries they conjure in a mere 24 hours.
I can't forget how the organising team at Carlson spoilt us with fancy dinners in upscale ballrooms and event halls, and wouldn't stop being amazing hosts, even up till the final hours of our competition week.
It was no small matter to us, to have the opportunity to represent NUS School of Computing on the international stage at such a prestigious Management Information Systems event like this, and I have Prof. Anand to thank for getting the team together.
This trip has most definitely rounded up my 4 years of University life in the most amazing way imaginable, but I can't wait to see what amazing achievements are to come for NUS in the Management Information Systems scene in years to come!
