MID-YEAR ROAD TRAFFIC SITUATION 2024

In the first half of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, the number of road traffic accidents decreased while the number of fatalities increased. During this period, the total number of fatalities arising from red-light running decreased while the number of fatalities arising from speeding and drink-driving accidents increased.

Motorcyclists together with their pillion riders, and elderly pedestrians remain a vulnerable group and a cause for concern as they continue to be over-represented in accidents.

On the education front, TP will launch a series of new road safety videos, emphasising the dangers of irresponsible driving behaviours such as drink driving and speeding.

TP will continue to take strong enforcement actions against errant motorists who violate traffic rules. Road safety is a shared responsibility. Together, we all play a part in making Singapore’s roads and driving environment safer.

How to stay safe when an intruder enters your home.

Physical crime cases increased in the first half of 2024 but the crime situation in Singapore remains under control. Everyone can play a part to prevent, deter and detect crime.

PHYSICAL CRIME CASES INCREASED IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2024

In the first half of 2024, there was a 4.1% increase in the total number of reported physical crime cases. Shop theft, outrage of modesty, voyeurism and theft in dwelling in residential premises are crimes of concern.

Shop theft constituted the highest proportion of reported cases amongst all the physical crimes. More than half of the shop theft cases involve amount loss of below $50. At the same time, shop theft remains as one of the top offences for youths arrested.

Despite the increase in physical crime in the first half of 2024, the crime situation in Singapore remains under control.

Everyone can contribute to the safety and security of Singapore. The SPF will continue to work closely with our community partners and stakeholders, such as public transport operators, retail outlet owners and public entertainment operators, to prevent, deter and detect crime.
