How is it like working with your committee for Pitch Night, one of the flagship events of the semester for N-House, and how has the committee supported you on this?
Working with my committee was a breeze as N House brings together talented individuals who are passionate and highly adept in their work. It also helped that I was in charge of last semester's Pitch Night and have been through the NOC program. This helped build my networks within ASEAN's startup ecosystem and imparted valuable skills like sales funnel strategies which were beneficial in our outreach to sponsors and judges.
A bit about myself: I used to be a bartender, now I enjoy slinging drinks and creating tasty concoctions for my loved ones . I also enjoy hitting the gym and boxing
Could you introduce your interest group and share what are the exciting activities that you have organized? and what is your most memorable experience in one of the events?
At N-House we have a range of interest groups for our residents to participate in! From Morning Coffee βοΈ to weekly skate πΉsessions at west coast park, N-House has it all.... like literally.... we have an interest group just to talk about crypto πͺor a foodie π group to go on food hunts π€© together!
Some exciting activities are like our BELLY BURNERS (running πββοΈ interest group) having a 100km cumulative goal to run together or N-Hikes going for a hike up Mount π» Faber :) The n-Gym group has bufflords πͺ there as well but they're all super friendly and supportive
My most memorable experience would be going to n-gym.... because I always feel awkward in the gym ποΈ and don't really know what to do but everyone is really kind and these KINGSSSS π will help me change my weights for me ^_^ LOL ok besides that every experience is a mem
What has N-house provided you with learning opportunities? How have interacting with N-House residents/startups been like for you?
N-House provided me with various learning opportunities. In my case I will say they were three main learning channels. 1. Wicked Wednesday where I was able to learn more about entrepreneurship (Buz Models, Digital Marketing, pitching, successful founders, etc). 2. N-Crypto, where I learnt about cryptocurrencies,NFTs, DeFi and blockchain related topics. 3. Finally, I found the best learning opportunity in the n-house members. I was able to learn so much from each person I met.
It has been an amazing and truly enriching experience. My interactions range from eating tacos in a Mexican restaurant with n-house members to discussing buz ideas π‘ for the next π¦ start-up. People pitch ideas to me everywhere, in the commhall, the bus, and even in the gymπ€£
How do you feel about the entire journey during the preparation for pitch night? How has the community in N-house and perhaps NCSG helped you and motivated you to build your startup idea?
1. When I signed up for pitch night I was excited to have an opportunity to explore business pitching. During the entire planning process, it was definitely very stressful. Although the results were not in my teamβs favour, we have learnt a lot from the feedback given and will continue to work on our idea!
2. The people in n house and my batch are definitely very encouraging and very willing to share our startup ideas and give each other feedback. This really gave me a safe space to explore entrepreneurship as well as make connections with so many wonderful aspiring entrepreneurs!
Can you tell us a story of your most unique moment in N-House? The moment when you realised N-House is the community for you?
It has not happened yet but it is definitely going to be the Pizza Party I am going to host with other N-House mates. Having the privilege to feed so many people of vastly different cultures and tastes and preferences, at sunset hour, will not only be a rewarding experience but may also inspire me to create new flavours and concoctions as a pizza chef.
It was the first ever supper I had with my tribemates. The conversation centred around each one of my tribemates' entrepreneurial ambition and ideas were so refreshing and inspiring. This was the exact moment I realised there will be no other community like N-House.
What is one thing/experience that attracted you to join N-house and continue staying here as the RA?
As a final semester student, it was a (really) belated sense of belonging to the school that drove my decision to stay at N-House as a resident assistant (RA). Call it cliche, but i wanted to live my final months as a student on βcarpe diemβ mode and experience the N-House life to its fullest. I was fortunate to have the chance to do so as an RA even though I was a first time resident, and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire entrepreneurial residential life that N-House has to offer. Throughout these couple of months, I not only had the chance to bond with my tribe members, fellow RAs but also gain support and invaluable guidance from the helpful staff in planning events (shoutout to Hussein, Siti and Amir!!) β¨βΊοΈ it has been a helluva ride - cheers to N-House!
How is your experience as a mentor in N-House? Can you share one of the most interesting startups from the N-House resident?
1. Being my first semester as the RAD for NHouse, the experience has been incredibly heartwarming, especially seeing the students grow and come up with amazing ideas in both the N-Novate challenge and Pitch Night. Looking forward to the next semester!
2. Mechie D's has to be the one that caught my eye the most. I thought it was incredibly innovative to utilize used face masks for vacuums, and the fact that they had a working prototype just made it all. the more impressive.
Whatβs the best thing about being an N-House RA? Highlight a challenge that helped you grow as an RA!
The best thing about being an RA is definitely meeting like-minded people! N-House allowed me to work in amazingly diverse settings and allowed me to forge meaningful connections with so many people. Having the opportunity to organise various Wicked Wednesday including Pitch Night has also deepen my understanding of what entrepreneurship really is. Really enjoyed the experience, no regrets π
One challenge is definitely stepping out of my comfort zone, as someone new in the position, I am unfamiliar with many things at the start, but with the friendly residents and all the other lovely RAs, I adapted fast and loved the experience!
Throwback to our first ever N-novate Challenge in N-House this semester! π₯³π₯³

N-HOUSE AY2021/22 SEM 2 π‘ Stay tuned for more events lined up this semester!! π€©
βIβm really grateful for N House because I was able to get the chance to talk to a lot of current NOC students and NOC alumni, which gave me a great insight into the benefits of the program and what I can take away from it.
I enjoy attending N House events, because I get to talk to like-minded people in an informal setting, so I donβt just get to know them as entrepreneurs, but individuals as well.
I really enjoyed learning about N House startups from a variety of different fields and seeing them pitch during Pitch Night, especially learning from how they answered challenging questions from VCs and startup founders.β
- Amelia, Friends of NOC
βWorking with the Pitch Night Committee was a fun and fulfilling one.
It was definitely not without its challenges but I am thankful to Sarah and Austin for their guidance as well as having unwavering support from Wei Shen and Hans as well. Pitch night would definitely not have been possible if not for their support.
All the comm members also pulled their weight and completed their respective responsibilities with haste and for that I am thankful.
Pitch Night was far from perfect but I hope that everyone still had an enjoyable time and everyone learned more from all the amazing esteemed judges that we had present during Pitch Night.
Looking forward to even better Pitch Night events in the future!β
- Jer Shun, Organising Committee for Pitch Night 2021
βI think one of the best things about being an N-House RA is the idea that you can discover about yourself in terms of your strengths and weaknesses and things like that.
One thing that I really learnt is, having people around me that can really support me in many of my challenges. I never understood that this was something that happened and I really am very grateful for my tribe members for always being there to support me as a person.
One challenge is definitely having to create that supportive environment in the first place. It is often very easy for all of us to get caught up in our priorities and we donβt, at some points of time, put this first. Iβm very happy that I am able to create that environment where people are able to support and be grateful for one another.β
- Cach, the Resident Assistant
βI chose to stay in N-house because of the people, the conversations we had. I think here in N-house we have a common interest in the startup ecosystem, whether it is in Singapore, Southeast Asia or around the world.
We all come from different backgrounds. Residents from different countries and residents with their own start ups. And we all have different views because some of us have gone to different NOC locations, for those of us who went overseas.
It is always interesting to listen to other peopleβs stories and experiences. You gain fresh ideas and fresh perspectives and you see things in new ways youβve never thought of before.
I think staying in N-house is a constant process of learning something new from the stories that others have shared and that is what I enjoy most about staying in N-house.β
- Daniel, NOC Alumni
βOne thing that attracted me to join N-house and continue staying here is definitely the community.
I may not be the most active resident in N-house, but I definitely do enjoy going down to Wicked Wednesdays, or joining in the activities when I can, and meeting new faces or just catching up with some familiar faces and friends to keep in touch with the startup community.
That is the reason I continued staying in N-house.β
- Nicole, NOC Alumni
βFirstly, I think it was a surprise really as there were several teams with very interesting and viable ideas. So, when the second and third place were announced, I thought we didnβt make it.
Secondly, it feels good as well as it felt like our effort paid off β my cofounder and my efforts. We were both quite excited since it was our fist time pitching to a larger audience. Most importantly, we are very happy that the problem that we aim to solve resonated with people and is a problem that is worth solving.
Being around like-minded folks who are interested in entrepreneurship really helped. I think N-house is probably the place that is most saturated with the most number of aspiring entrepreneurs in NUS. So, you can really get feedback from your peers very easily or even Amir, who is our resident mentor. I, myself, approached several people in N-house for feedback before the pitch and refined our deck several times.β
- Mervin, Founder of Homematch
βI would say that it's more of the accumulated moments in N-House that made me see it as the community for me.
This includes all the chats over meals, as well as events that we had on top of those organised by the N-House team -- camping at WCP, and night cycling to the east!
Through these small moments, I have gotten to know my peers better, forge new friendships and occasionally spark a conversion about entrepreneurship.
What is great about N-House would be the freedom to create our own interest groups, where the weekly badminton sessions are definitely one of the highlights this semester as I had the opportunity to meet new friends of common interest across the 2 halls!β
- Michelle, Member of N-House Badminton Interest Group
βI remember at the start of the semester, in order to get everyone to know each other better, we organised an event for residents to share about their ideas or start-ups that they were currently working on.
At first, I was afraid that no one was going to step up to share, but on the event day, I saw a lot of talents in N-house who are currently working on many interesting start-up ideas, and these people are passionate and serious about what they are doing.
I guess you could say that that event was very memorable for me, not because of the event's planning process, but because of the people of N-house. I was motivated to try something new, to talk to them about start-ups.
I feel that I finally found a group of like-minded students to work on something big together. That was my biggest takeaway from N-house.β
