In 2022, the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development reported about 6,785 homeless individuals.

Homelessness is more concentrated in urban areas, particularly in Baltimore City, which has the highest number of homeless individuals in the state. Other areas with significant homeless populations include Prince George's County and Montgomery County.

Common causes of homelessness in Maryland include lack of affordable housing, unemployment, mental health issues, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Economic factors, such as rising rent prices and insufficient income, are major contributors.

According to the Baltimore City's Mayor's Office of Homeless Services, approximately 1,600 men, women, and children are homeless in Baltimore City on any given night. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, in Maryland there were an estimated 5,349 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. Seeing the problem first hand and after meeting hundreds of homeless individuals, it would not be surprising if the numbers are higher than what is currently being reported. Thank you to each and everyone of you that continue to make Operation Frosty successful! Much love! ❤️❄️☃️

I hope everyone is having an amazing Friday! I wanted to share a resource with you that could be extremely valuable if you are a therapist, social worker, case manager, nurse, doctor, etc. If you are also struggling (which everyone does from time to time), you will find the website to be extremely helpful.

https://www.findhelp.org/

Put in your zip code and dozens of resources/programs become available and provides contact information. Resources are available in a number of different categories, including financial assistance, food, housing, goods/clothing, transit, medical care, education, employment, and legal assistance. For example, I put in Johns Hopkins zip code and 2,935 resources/programs are available in the area. In Hanover, PA there are approximately 2,226. I want to thank my friend Hava for sharing the website and information with me! You may have already known about it but if not, I'm sure you'll find it very useful.

It's really exciting to start preparing for this year's Operation Frosty. It will be the largest Operation Frosty yet. You haven't heard of Operation Frosty before!?

Throughout the year, we buy and collect thousands of supplies to create care packages for homeless individuals in Baltimore. During the winter, we hit the streets to hand out the care packages to them directly. It gives us a chance to talk with homeless individuals and truly understand their needs and concerns. They also can obtain valuable information on services that are available. What started out as five buckets of supplies has now turned into over a hundred backpacks that are distributed to the homeless each year! ❤️❄️❤️❄️❤️

09/12/2023

This last weekend, Tiffany Keller and her daughters dropped off an awesome donation for Operation Frosty! Thank you so much! ☃️❄️❤️

This will be our largest Operation Frosty ever! Each person who has donated or volunteered their time is truly a part of this epic and amazing journey/cause. We could never have done it without you!

Unfortunately, there are many biases against homeless individuals. Operation Frosty has given us an amazing opportunity to work with this population. Always be kind because since you truly don't know the struggles that somebody else may be going through.
