This past Friday night, the MUC’s Civic Engagement Committee hosted a "Meet the Candidates" event for the August Primaries. Our community listened to candidates (Democrats and Republicans) running for US Senate, US House, State, Oakland County, and Townships (Bloomfield and West Bloomfield). Our community appreciated listening to those who made time to address the Muslim community: Hill Harper (US Senate), Ahmed Ghanem (US House District 11), Hermon Barbe and Donni Steel (State House), Steve Kaplan (West Bloomfield Township), Deepak Dinghe and Jonathan Warshay (West Bloomfield Board), Oscar Garner, Valerie Murray, Mark Antakli, and Roman Grigoriev (Bloomfield Township), Wendy Jackson and Johnnette Eggert (Oakland County Commissioner). We missed those who provided the courtesy of a response that they cannot attend: Shadia Martini (State House), Marcia Gershenson (County), and Elissa Slotkin (US Senate).

Please be advised that starting at 8:00 pm today (Saturday), there will be an increase of $10 per ticket for the Eid Al-Adha Festival tickets, subject to availability.

Guest Khateeb | Friday Night Lecture

Shaykh Suleiman Hani, Director of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib Institute and a research scholar for Yaqeen Institute, holds multiple religious certifications and master’s degrees from the University of Jordan and Harvard University. With over a decade of experience as an Imam and community leader in Michigan, he's lectured globally, authored books and articles, and appeared on major Islamic TV stations.

- Friday Night Lecture -

Dr. Omar M. Mahmood is a neuropsychologist who has been licensed to practice psychology in California and in Qatar. He is an alumnus of Dar al-Mustafa for Islamic Sciences in Hadramawt, Yemen. He completed his MA and Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from Wayne State University. He has been a visiting professor at Bayan Islamic Graduate School since 2017, where he teaches the course "Counseling Muslim Youth" for graduate students in the Islamic Chaplaincy program. Dr. Omar frequently gives community lectures on topics of mental health, brain development, and psychology from an Islamic perspective.
