🚨 Shocking Statistics Alert! 🚨

Mental Health in America has just released its latest numbers, and the results for California are alarming. Our state is ranked 48th in access to care, with a staggering 61.8% of people with a mental illness not receiving the treatment they need. This is a wake-up call for all of us.

At the California Family Institute, we are dedicated to making a difference. Our mission is twofold:

Bridge the gap for those who cannot access mental and relational health services in Orange County and beyond.

Develop the mental health leaders of the future to ensure that disparities in access shrink exponentially.

Together, we can work towards a healthier California. Let's raise awareness and take action to improve mental health care access for everyone.

Hello Friends - The next Narrative & Pizza is scheduled. Please RSVP if you plan to come.
This one we will be covering Michael White’s ideas around the therapists position as Decentered But Influential, and ideas around Way of Being in therapy that lead to better outcomes and stronger therapeutic relationships.
From Michael White:
The notion “decentred” does not refer to the intensity of the therapist’s engagement (emotional or otherwise) with people seeking consultation, but to the therapist’s achievement in according priority to the personal stories and to the knowledges and skills of these people. In regard to the personal stories of people’s lives, in the context of this achievement, these people have a “primary authorship” status, and the knowledges and skills that have been generated in the history of their lives are the principal considerations.
The therapist is influential not in the sense of imposing an agenda or in the sense of delivering interventions, but in the sense of building a scaffold, through questions and reflections, that makes it possible for people to:
a) more richly describe the alternative stories of their lives,
b) step into and to explore some of the neglected territories of their lives, and to
c) become more significantly acquainted with the knowledges and skills of their lives that are relevant to addressing the concerns, predicaments and problems that are at hand.
We hope to see you soon!

There exists some critique of Narrative Therapy that in its emphasis on larger societal discourses it has missed out on considering the more immediate family or the human networks that people live within. This one hour online webinar will respond to this critique and show how narrative practice in family therapy does attend to both the larger societal discourses as well as family intricacies at the most local level, and rather than blame families for the problems of family members, the narrative family therapy approach brings the family or networks together to counter the problem as they see it.
