“Recovery Coach” is one of many titles that are used for people who provide coaching in the field of recovery. Other titles could be Sober Companion, Sober Coach, Recovery Support Specialist, or Peer Mentor. Titles aside, their role is to prevent the losses caused by substance abuse, by intervening before the addiction spirals into full-blown crisis or death, and by reinforcing the experience of recovery for those who are already on their journey to sobriety and wellness. They are there to provide positive guidance by helping people reconnect to their own inner strengths, capacities, resilience, and sense of wellbeing.

Since there are very personal levels of interaction with patients, which carries with it a high level of confidentiality, trust, and moral responsibility, ethics are a very important part of Recovery Coach training.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on 31 August each year. Its purpose is to raise awareness of overdoses, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths and acknowledge the grief felt by families, friends and communities.

08/25/2021

Dolan Research International was created out of a NEED.

I saw a need for treating people seeking recovery from addiction with dignity, so I filled the gap by learning to ask people “What’s right about you?” and helping them build on it.

Being a Coach isn’t always easy, but when I think back to the early days, I’m proud of how far I’ve come – how far WE’VE come. If you’re feeling the gap I mentioned, please don’t hesitate to comment below.

I’d be honored to know what’s right about you!

Ginger Rosela was one of MCF’s original Family Peer Support Specialists who helped to launch our statewide Substance Use Disorder program. After losing her son, Jake, to an overdose in 2013, Ginger became a passionate supporter of the recovery movement and advocated tirelessly for families. She believed that recovery was possible and that everyone deserved to recover. When Ginger tragically lost her life in an accident in May, we knew that she would have wanted her work to continue and we are doing everything we can to honor her legacy. September 30 is International Recovery Day, when we celebrate the ability for those with drug, alcohol and behavioral addictions to achieve long-term sobriety and live productive and healthy lives. This year, we are also declaring September 30 to be MCF’s Ginger Rosela Day, so that we can honor her memory.

He has also advocated in front of the Department of Health and Human Services for the inclusion of peer support services in the Affordable Care Act as well as the Food and Drug Administration for the expanded use of Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT).
