📢 Exciting News! 📢
Pacific Gateway Center is proud to have joined other dedicated nonprofits at the signing ceremony of HB2107: LANGUAGE ACCESS FOR LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY (LEP) by Governor Green.
This vital legislation establishes a LEP language access coordinator within the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and allocates $200,000 for FY 2024-2025. It addresses the critical need for improved language interpretation services for LEP individuals, especially in times of disaster, as highlighted by the challenges faced during the August 8, 2023, Maui wildfires.
We are thrilled to see this commitment to ensuring better access to emergency relief for all, and we look forward to continuing our advocacy for the LEP community.
Together, we are making strides toward a more inclusive and supportive Hawaii! 🌺🤝

On Saturday, 4/27/24, Pacific Gateway Center participated in a meaningful community event at the Makiki District Park to promote health and wellness for seniors, older adults, and people with disabilities.
The "Korean Senior Health Fair" was jointly organized and implemented by
Project Vision
Hawaii Korean Nurses Association (HKNA)
Hawaii Public Health Institute (HIPHI)
Kupuna Collective
Pear Suite
Catholic Charities of Hawaii
Times Pharmacy
The United Korean Association of Hawaii
This event, funded by the National Council on Aging, helped Korean seniors, older adults and people with disabilities gain access to the latest COVID-19 and flu vaccines. Each vaccine recipient received a package of fresh produce locally grown by PGC's immigrant farmers in Kunia, Oahu, and introduced additional wraparound social and legal immigration services, including information about the State Medicaid Renewal process.
Much thanks to Liza Ryan Gill and her Pilihonua team at the Palehua Conservation Initiative for allowing PGC to meet at their beautiful mountain top location. PGC works closely in partnership with Liza and her advocacy team from the Hawaii Coalition for Immigrant Rights on several immigration initiatives in Hawaii. We appreciate all of the work Liza has done to help PGC overcome the barriers our immigrant community members face every day. Hawaii Coalition for Immigrant Rights

Think immigration to the U.S. is easy? Think again!
Working with a legally complex concept like Immigration law is difficult for anyone. Considering many of our community members have difficulty with the English language, it’s understandable how intimidating this process can be!
We are proud to assist immigrants, refugees, and those with difficulty speaking English on many aspects of the immigration process. You can learn more about what we do at https://www.pacificgatewaycenter.org/immigration-and-refugee-services
Late last year, our partners at Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. filled a classroom for the Compacts of Free Association (COFA) Community Resource Fair. Can you see our table where we offered signups and assistance with legal and immigration services?
Mahalo to the MEO team for putting this great effort together and giving our Immigrant Resource Center more visibility in the Maui community!
📸 Maui Economic Opportunity
November 2023 was a proud month for the team as we opened our IRC Maui Satellite Office!
Interim PGC Executive director David Leaha arranged a special Ikebana for opening day and shared some thoughts for the Maui community:
“The arrangement started with 3 variegated torch red anthuriums with a white variegation; it was surrounded with special protea leaves which reminded me of the beautiful protea growing so effortlessly in the cooler Kula hillsides of Maui. The other stunning leaves and flowers brought energy, color and life to the arrangement to signify hope and beauty springing from the base of the arrangement. My hope was to show Maui was the spark for everyone in Hawaiʻi to take care of the natural beauty which we all enjoy all around us and to respect our ʻāina, rejoice in our differences and work together to bring Lahaina back to its bustling town of history, arts and culture. We’re with you Lahaina and our Maui ʻOhana.”
For immigrants, refugees, and those with difficulty speaking English, we welcome you if you need legal immigration assistance, disaster relief referrals, housing referrals, healthcare access referrals, and more. Find us in the J. Walter Cameron Center:
