The Salvation Army exists to love God and meet human needs in His name. One way we do that is by helping to fight food insecurity. The Salvation Army of Hammond-Munster fights hunger through our food pantry that is offered Tuesday & Thursday at 1pm-4pm and Wednesday at 9am-Noon. Over 100 years ago, in San Francisco, Captain Joseph McFee set out the first Salvation Army collection Kettle. Since then, the iconic Red Kettle has become one of the most important ways that money is raised to help The Salvation Army meet needs all over the world. This money not only helps provide food and gifts during the holiday season, but it is used year-round to help provide food, clothing, shelter, and dignity to those in need.
