Thank you so much ! On behalf of Brooklyn YP, it was amazing meeting you and we look forward to having you back.
Posted β’ π When I traveled to NYC last month, one of the highlights of my trip was getting to meet grassroots UN advocates and supporters, including a group of change-makers from the UNA Brooklyn Chapter. During our Social Justice Series (first session next week, March 28, at 7:30 pm EST ), you will have the opportunity to hear from Somalia-Rose Muhammad, one of the star leaders I met during my trip! π
In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Somalia-Rose led a march across the Brooklyn Bridge and galvanized young people from to peacefully protest against racial injustice in the United States. Throughout her entire life, she has stood for & . βοΈ
Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. During our Social Justice Series, experts and advocates like Somalia-Rose will discuss ways we can domestically and internationally. β
U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield once told me about βhow she uses food to bond with others around the world. Iβm so honored to have had the opportunity to pass the plate with these incredible individuals. UNA members like Somalia-Rose, Amanda, and El Hadj inspire me each and every day. They make even the hardest of times in this role worth every late night, every early morning call, every march and movement. πΊπΈπΊπ³π

Today we celebrate the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world. Womenβs active participation in our communities and leadership drives progress for everyone, yet they are still underrepresented in public life and decision making. Women deserve an equal world that is free from biases and discrimination with equal rights and opportunities for all.
As we celebrate International Womenβs Day (IWD) let us all think about the women who have made a change in this world and to change this narrative by making sure that women are seated at every table where decisions are made.πΈπΎ

Around the world, nearly 1 billion people live with a mental disorder. Every 40 seconds, someone dies from su***de. And depression is now recognized as a leading cause of illness and disability among children and adolescents.
All of this was true, even before COVID-19. We are now seeing the consequences of the pandemic on peopleβs mental well-being, and this is just the beginning. Many groups, including older adults, women, children and people with existing mental health conditions are at risk of considerable medium- and long-term ill-health if action is not taken.
Addressing mental health is central to achieving Universal Health Coverage. It deserves our commitment. Too few people have access to quality mental health services. In low- and middle-income countries, more than 75 per cent of people with mental health conditions receive no treatment at all. And, overall, governments spend on average less than 2 per cent of their health budgets on mental health. This cannot go on.
We can no longer ignore the need for a massive scale-up in investment in mental health. We must act together, now, to make quality mental health care available for all who need it to allow us to recover faster from the COVID-19 crisis.ββ£β£β£β£β£
