Special announcement at Morning Prayer today! Students enrolled in last semester’s “Mental Marathoners” elective competed in the International Academic Competition Regional Finals this past Sunday with outstanding success! Six qualified for the Nationals in History, Science and Geography and three medaled. So proud of all who competed! Congratulations!

This year's Mother Mary Brunch was a wonderful example of community and the joy in collective work. Each year the event brings us together to celebrate the season, and continue the tradition of bringing Christmas to the families at Good Shepherd Shelter. The celebration also included the Class of 2024 attending as guests with parents and friends, and a beautiful performance by the Mayfield Concert Choir!

Our 4th graders led our Thanksgiving Prayer Service this morning - reminding us to always be grateful for the extraordinary and the ordinary. They did a great job!

Learning opportunity! Today students visited the new expanded Parking Complex and Mustangs Playing Field construction site to view the application of Shotcrete to the parking complex walls. Many thanks to Illig Construction and Project Engineer Mr. Wong for his presentation on the Magic of Shotcrete and arranging the viewing!

The Second Grade Halloween Variety Show kicked off the Harvest Festival with great style. A true variety show with singing, dancing, jokes, poetry and more. Highlighting individual talents! Great job second grade!

Experiential Learning! MJS Sixth graders spent two days exploring, discovering, and stepping out of their comfort zone with CELP (Catalina Environmental Leadership Program) on Catalina Island last week. With challenge comes growth! From the choppy water during the crossing from the mainland to the snorkeling, kayaking and nighttime hikes, students stepped into their growth zone while learning about sea life and native plants.

A shout out to our awesome Student Admissions Ambassadors! Today was our first Open House of the admissions season and we are grateful to have this dedicated group of 8th grade volunteers help lead tours, and talk about the school with their unique insight and experience. Great job!

For one day every October our school colors become pink and blue! A tradition for almost three decades, our annual Denim Day raises awareness and funds to help the American Cancer Society with their ongoing work supporting those affected by breast cancer. This year, student council hosted a snack bar and also collected head scarves and hats for chemotherapy patients. Our prayers go out to everyone in our community and beyond facing breast cancer.

Exciting News! Olivia Bohanec, MJS Class of 2020, now a senior at La Salle College Prep, was named this morning as one of the 2024 Tournament of Roses Royal Court. Congratulations Olivia!

Tinker Time Magic. A popular lunch recess activity combines exploration and imagination. With a few tools and materials, first graders don't hesitate to get creative!

Meet the Class of 2024! The group photo at the end of their overnight retreat is as much a tradition as the retreat itself. This time together away from campus at the start of their eighth grade journey provides perspective, brings the class closer and offers time for self reflection. Creative, unique and full of enthusiasm- the Class of 2024 is ready for an amazing year!

Gifts for the animals at Pasadena Humane! Service learning in kindergarten connects little hands with little paws. Our kindergarten has been busy collecting used towels, creating loving and encouraging signs, and making toys and treats for the animals at Pasadena Humane. Today was the day to present them!

Friendly Neighborhood Helpers! Catching tunes, Sweet voices - the first grade play is a tradition we love. A tribute to all those who serve our community!

Sublimation! With safety goggles firmly in place kindergarten scientists experienced the transition of solid matter to gas in a fun experiment with dry ice. Their expressions of wonder and amazement are a joy to witness!

Supporting our mission. A special shout out tonight for our 2022-2023 Board of Trustees. The work of Mayfield's Board is often behind the scenes, yet it has tremendous impact on our long-term growth and sustainability. We are grateful for their insight, expertise, and commitment.

Student Leaders! Our 2022-2023 Student Council was officially inducted last Friday during the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The twelve members of the Executive Council (pictured here) have many responsibilities. From leading Morning Prayer, organizing and promoting events, and Reach Out snack bars to providing technology support, opening performances with prayer and holding featured roles at graduation- the Council has a busy year ahead!

A welcome visit! In July, Lower School music and drama teacher Kay Bowen was chosen as the recipient of Mount Saint Mary University's Kaplan Culturally Responsive Classroom Makeover. Today, members of Mount Saint Mary’s Equity, Diversity and Justice team visited Mrs. Bowen’s classroom to deliver the generous prize of educational materials and supplies to support learning. Mrs. Bowen is excited to share the items with other faculty and the students enjoyed exploring the collection!

And so we begin! Great to have our students back on campus for the 2022-2023 school year!

Almost Alumni! The Class of 2022 graduates tomorrow! They will be attending over a dozen different high schools next fall. Best wishes - we will miss you!

Gifts for the animals !
Our kindergarteners were so happy to present handmade cat beds, toys, dog biscuits, and signs to encourage forever homes to Michelle Holbrook and her dog Jasmine from Pasadena Humane today. The service learning project also included learning more about animals, dog safety and a community towel drive that collected over 100 towels for the animals! Little Hands Helping Little Paws!

Details! First graders take a closer look at several American symbols as part of a thinking routine that builds observation skills and understanding. Using small replicas or photographs, students drew a symbol and planned how they could recreate it using basic supplies such as pipe cleaners and cardboard. They will be off to the D-Lab soon to start building!
