Du Bois College House is one of eleven college houses at the University of Penn. Founded in 1972, it's primary focus is on the culture and history of people of the African Diaspora. However, it welcomes students of all cultures, races, religions, nationalities, etc.

Don’t miss the screening of Ava DuVernay’s powerful film “Origin”. Inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents,” this event promises to be enlightening and inspiring.

Stay after the film for an insightful discussion with Penn Faculty Members, Rahul Mukherjee, Ph.D., Lisa Mitchell, Ph.D., and Tukufu Zuberi. Ph.D.

Students can share their reactions to the film and discuss its themes with other students and the faculty panel.

IN THIS TALK, DR. ANUGOM SUBMITS ESTABLISHED SCHOLARLY PROJECTS REINFORCE A “MODEL MINORITY” OR MODEL BLACK IMMIGRANT NARRATIVE THAT MAINTAINS ANTI-BLACK RACISM, IN WAYS THAT PROMOTES A COLOR-BLIND AGENDA THAT CREATES A RACIAL WEDGE BETWEEN OTHER RACIALIZED MINORITY GROUPS, NAMELY AFRICAN AMERICANS.
DR. ANUGOM’S PRESENTATION WILL

1) IDENTIFY AND INTERROGATE LITERATURE BOTH SCHOLARLY AND NARRATIVE ON U.S. BLACK COLLEGIANS;

2) EMPLOY RESEARCH FINDINGS AND WORK THAT INDICTS THE LACK OF RECOGNITION OF MODEL MINORITY AND MODEL BLACK NARRATIVES IN WELL-ESTABLISHED SCHOLARLY PROJECTS; AND

3) RECONCEPTUALIZE THE WAYS IN WHICH WE STUDY AND SERVE BLACK STUDENTS WITH TRANSNATIONAL BACKGROUNDS.

Don’t forget about the workshop on investing. The workshop will be led by Financial Wellness @ Penn. It will cover all the things you should know to get started growing your wealth, including opening retirement accounts (Roth IRAs vs traditional IRAs). This workshop will be insightful for those interested in building generational wealth.
