This finger palate painting work inspired by was so much fun. We had these wooden squares in our collage box that needed a purpose, and this sensory dough was perfect to pinch and smear these abstract masterpieces. π¨
The pinching motion is fantastic for our buddies who are working on strengthening their hands and fine tuning their 3 finger pinch. Overall, it was a wonderful sensorial experience and the children were able to mix colors and explore their personal artistic style.
TIME is such an abstract concept.
However just like everything in Montessori, you start with the abstract and move to a more concrete way of understanding. This work has been amazing to help break down time with materials the children are already familiar with ( like the light blue 5 from the short bead stair).
Even if children do not know their numbers, they can easily match the time with the small clock picture. They can also match the 5 beads all the way around the clock. This helps them sensorially explore the concept of time before applying it in a more direct concrete way.

1-9 Object Boxes have been a hit over here on the Math shelves! These object boxes offer a variety of tiny objects for the children to count and explore. Introducing specific quantities of grouped objects that are matched with their corresponding symbol, really reinforces the whole concept of what a number truly is.
I love when a work incorporates so many aspects of a Montessori classroom. This one in particular starts with a little Practical Life when opening and closing the box latches. The way the boxes stack and line up naturally lead to sequencing and matching, which touches on both Language and Math. Then the dot spacers on the mat perfectly create a visual grid showing smallest to largest, which is a delightful Sensorial cherry on top.
These are so easy to make, and are a fantastic addition to any Montessori Math area.
The Cultural Calendar
Happy Holidays! Here is a brief overview of 6 holidays (other than Christmas) that are celebrated all around the world in December.
All year long, there is a reason to remember and come together. Traditional celebrations of holidays have been around as long as recorded history. Traditions are an important part of building a strong bond between family and community. They give us a sense of belonging and a way to express what is important to us. Holidays are an important way to mark the passage of time, all while connecting us to our history.
By sharing our own cultures and understanding the traditions of others, we will always have a reason to celebrate humanity.

We went to Goodwill and Michaels today and found somew awesome new Practical Life, Sensorial, and Language matching work! SWIP β¬
οΈ to see each work.
Practical Life π§Ά
The amazing Melissa and Doug loom was a steal for $6. Vance loved this work so much and spent the afternoon weaving.
Sensorial π π‘
This beautiful ferris wheel was $4, and it just so happened to have 6 seats. I added 6 round stickers to correlate with each color of the rainbow, then paired them up with some matching pom poms that fit snug inside each seat. It was the perfect addition to our little rainbow area on the Sensorial shelves. I love finding creative ways to upcycle non traditional montessori items to create new work.
Language Matching βοΈ βοΈ
We snagged these snowflakes at Michaels for $3, then put together a beautiful snowflake matching work that is in the Language area.
Happy Diwali! It is traditional to acknowledge the cultural calendar in Montessori classrooms in order to give the children a sense of what holidays are important to people all over the world and here at home. Today we read books, colored rangolis and made diyas out of clay and beads. The children ( and the teachers!) had a blast!
You guys!! My Shrek swamp pond outdoor potty dreams came true for the kids this week. We have a few children that are really solidifying their potty training, and this has been perfect to make sure they have a place to go when we are outside. Having 2 yards is awesome, but sometimes it can be a little tricky when you have to take a pause and go to the bathroom. This quick little set up, makes it easier for the kids to handle their business and get it straight back to the fun. π½ π± ποΈ
Montessori snacking has been So ππΌ much ππΌ fun ππΌ. We always love a solid produce based snack but these child led snack experiences have been a blast! It's so amazing what happens to a child's pallet when they are involved in the preparation process.
First we tried out the toaster with some protein waffles and sun butter. π§ The children were THRILLED to use the toaster and went back for seconds and thirds!
Then we added some chopping skills to our " Elvis" snack. Toast with sun butter and banana slices. π π π§ The children peeled and chopped their own bananas and placed them on top of their sun buttered toast. An Elvis favorite!
Then today we leveled up! We took basil from the garden and made mini pepita pesto pizzas. The children have been obsessed with the edible garden, and since the basil has been such a favorite, pesto was the natural move. The children pulled the leaves, chopped garlic, squeezed the lemons, and poured the pepitas. Then we blended it all up with some olive oil to spread on our whole grain bread squares, and topped it with organic cheese. Each child made their own and they were amazing! π π±
Practical Life!! One of my absolute favorite places in a Montessori classroom.
Goodnight Moon. π
Fairy Garden! π§π»ββοΈ π± It has been so much fun creating little moments around the yards to inspire curiosity. π
Our Garden remodel is just so dreamy! We are so grateful to our incredible neighbors. Everyone has really come together to make this private garden a reality. The children will have both the garden and the play courtyard with toys and a reading tent to relax and play outside. The first day is just around the corner and we cant wait!

Practical Life.
Practical life is one of my favorite Montessori areas in the classroom. It is full of beautiful small objects, tiny spoons and pitchers, and water. Everything in Practical Life helps build the child's confidence, body control, and dexterity. The work is carefully prepared for the children to choose whatever is attractive to them and use independently.
Our garden is blooming! We have an English walnut tree, apple tree, cherry tree, raspberries, and blackberries on the property and it feels so lush! Everything is delicious and we are loving it all. ( so are the bunnies π° π)
We are obsessed with Tuesdays and ! Vance approves of the Raspberry Rhubarb coffee cake. These desserts are never too sweet and always the perfect amount of delicious.
I got some face paint to celebrate PRIDE, and did some practice painting on this little guy. In case you were wondering, he confirmed that he can definitely can run faster now. π¨ π π
We are just loving this fun 1-10 dot work! The grid gives children space to count out the dots. Even if the child is not yet confident in their symbol recognition, they can still count the numbers to figure out where they are in the 1-10 order.
