The PM class ended the year with a fun unit exploring the trolls in our area! Many of them had visited at least one of the 6 local instillations and have been aching to tell us about it! We started off by reading some fun troll books, then had them bring in pictures of themself in front of a troll and add it to our map! Then we went on a forest and beach adventure, collecting sticks, moss, lichen, cones, shells, seaweed, stones and more. Each student chose a name for their troll (their first name, an adjective, and a piece of clothing or part of the body; ie Charlie Wet Boots). Then the building began! All sorts of creativity and ideas and loads of laughing! They all turned out fabulously!

This week we opened up discussions around invasive species-specifically English Ivy. We observed the hillsides that had been maintained in the forest and others that had not, and then pulled some for crowns. A couple times this week we held 1-minute silent ‘listening sessions’ in the woods and reported what we heard. We’re also holding voting sessions where each student get’s to voice their choice on destination points.
AM class bringin’ it! We’re learning each other’s names, starting our neighborhood group walks, and helping care for the garden.
We are so happy to be back in the swing of things! There’s nothing quite like learning and playing in the woods and garden!
We’re learning ‘same, or me too’ in ASL this week, and sang Head, shoulders, knees and toes in both Spanish and French! Each student also had the opportunity to mix their very own shade of blue using white or black add-in, and of course our blue science with baking soda and droppers full of blue vinegar had us bubbling over with excitement! 💙
Blue crew in the house! Blueberries, blue water in the sensory table, blue science with vinegar/baking soda, blue books and oh yeah, blue clothes! 👖
Finding green all around us! Using binoculars in the forest, making fern prints, and working in our new grocery store! 💚
We concluded Yellow Week with 🍋 lemonade making and lemon slice art! We’ve also been busy in the garden picking cabbage and planting some fall crops!
The PM class has welcomed a few AM graduates and brand new classmates this summer! We’ve been happy to show them the meadow, apple orchard, our afternoon routine and what a friendly group we are together!
Farm and Forest Camp has begun! It’s been so nice to see old friends and welcome new ones! We made mini sprout houses, played a seed matching game, divided up the farm chores, and played in the forest!
