King Street Co-op Preschool

King Street is a supportive, enriching, low-cost preschool with parent involvement and monthly family education for ages 2-5yrs, plus a toddler program for 1-year-olds. We are family friendly - potty training is not required, and younger siblings can accompany parents in class. We have a large, partially covered playground and garden area to safely learn, play, run, climb, build, craft, swing, and slide.

“How Can I Help You?”: Reconsidering Behavior Management Given that many teachers feel they are not well prepared to manage behaviors in a classroom (Pavri 2004), we have intentionally pursued this topic in our professional endeavors as teacher educators, observing hundreds of preservice and in-service teachers

Our community gathered yesterday to catch up, have fun, and fundraise for our beloved . We had a beautiful afternoon together and the money raised will support our programs and families in so many ways.

5. Anti-bias. This philosophy maintains that diversity is positive, while oppressive behaviors are negative. Anti-bias curriculum is based on concept that it is detrimental for children to develop biases against people of different color, religious and ethnic culture, sexual orientation, ability, or economic class.

In addition, curriculum goals include enabling every to construct a confident self-identity, encouraging understanding and acceptance of the common humanity all people share. We learn from our neighbors and work to build community together.

4. Problem-solving. This approach trusts that children have the ability to solve their own problems with the facilitation and support of a skilled adult to guide them through the process. For young children the goal is learning to use the problem-solving process, rather than always finding the solution.

You’ll hear brainstorming ideas for group play, making a plan for sharing toys, and communicating with friends about who will be flying the plane.

3. Play-based. We believe that playing is the primary learning experience for children. Our goal is to create an environment where children “do what comes naturally,” which is play.
