Congratulations to Bolton Police Department Chief Nelson who officially retired today! Chief Nelson started his public safety career as a on-call Firefighter and EMT for the Stow Fire Department for almost 10 years before becoming a police officer in Bolton. We wish you a long and happy retirement!

Congratulations to Bolton Police Chief Warren “Bumper” Nelson, who has officially retired today, June 30th, 2024, after 32 years of loyal service to the Town of Bolton.

He began his career in public safety working as a call firefighter and special officer in Stow and as an auxiliary police officer in Wayland, before joining the Bolton Police Department as a Patrolman in 1992. He progressed through the ranks as a Patrol Supervisor, Sergeant, and Lieutenant before becoming Chief in 2015.

During his time as Chief, he brought in programs beneficial to community safety, such as establishing an unwanted/expired medication turn-in location at the Public Safety Building; implementing policy to equip officers with nasal naloxone to help save those experiencing drug overdose; acquiring solar powered speed display signage to encourage traffic safety; and he ensured the department continued in its proud tradition of community involvement during events such as “Walk to School Days”, parades, and with various local youth organizations.

Through endless days, late night call-outs, holidays, weekends, storms, crises of every variety and a global pandemic…Thank you for all your years of service, Chief.

617, your sector is 55/50, and you can code 5! We’ll take it from here. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.
