Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) introduced Move Illinois: the 2024 Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) which will strategically outline goals, objectives, and strategies for Illinois' diverse transportation network for the next several years.

You can help identify the plan’s goals and objectives by taking their survey at https://form.jotform.com/mplshdrpi/idot-lrtp-survey-1. The survey will close by December 31st.

Northern Illinois Food Bank distribution in Cristo Rey St. Martin parking lot this Thursday, December 7th, 4-6pm or until groceries are gone. They plan to serve about 600 families. No paperwork or any other requirements. All are welcome.

The City is looking for interested residents to join the Stakeholder Participation Panel (SPP). As an SPP member you will have the opportunity to participate in the planning process for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), represent your neighborhood, and contribute to important decisions regarding housing and community development.

All Waukegan residents who have live here for at least one year and have a passion for community development may apply at https://www.waukeganil.gov/538/STAKEHOLDER-PARTICIPATION-PANEL-SPP.

December 1st is World AIDS Day. an important awareness day set aside to reflect on and celebrate the global progress in the HIV/AIDS journey, recognize the challenges remaining, and honor lives lost. On this day, the commitment to supporting the well-being of those with HIV, as well as those at risk, is renewed. Join Lake County Stands Against Stigma Coalition this Friday, 6 - 8pm at the Belvidere Recreation Center, 412 S. Lewis Avenue for this is free event featuring a candle-lighting ceremony, songs performed by Pascale M. Trouillot and accompaniment by Ken McMullen, and much more. As temperatures drop and energy use rises, some people may struggle to pay natural gas and utility bills. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is open to all eligible customers as of December 1st. Additionally, North Shore Gas' Share the Warmth program helps qualified customers pay their natural gas bills with heating grants.

Call Community Action Partnership of Lake County at 847-249-4330 to discuss either of these programs.

Metra added a Holiday Train that will start in Waukegan. The Holiday Train will run on Saturday, December 16th, but tickets go on sale Thursday, November 30th, 7am. Tickets for the other Metra rail lines sold out in one day.

Today and tomorrow, the Friends of the Waukegan Public Library will hold their Fall Book and DVD Sale at the Main Branch of the library. Money raised goes to programming, including the Friday Courtyard Concerts, and supporting library initiatives, such as the sensory room called Comfort Zone.

Reminder! Today is the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Rehab Contractors Open House from 11am - 1pm in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall.

CDBG staff will have applications available and will guide you through the process. CDBG contractors have projects available to them all the time and receive guaranteed payments. This is an opportunity to earn money and help homeowners in need. Refreshments will be available at the Open House.
