The Fairmount Center was created by Wichita State University in the summer of 1995 to serve as a resource for K-12 science and math education.
The Center runs the Kansas Science Olympiad, hosts the Kansas Academy of Science's Kansas Junior Academy of Science and coordinates the JASON Project in Kansas. In addition, the Center was proud to have been responsible for the organization of the National Science Science Olympiad Tournament which was hosted by Wichita State in May 2007.
An opportunity for high school teachers! Interested in learning and exploring more ways to incorporate more astronautics content into your curriculum? Dr. Atri Dutta, Aerospace Engineering Associate Professor at WSU, is hosting a 5 session workshop the beginning of June. A free summer camp for high school students! The deadline to apply has been extended for another week. Spread the word!
We'd love to see high school students 16 and older attend our geoscience camp. Offered weekdays from 9 a.m. - noon, June 17- 28, students who complete the camp will also receive a $500 stipend. This free program is supported by the Kansas NSF EPSCoR First Award Grant through ARISE and the Department of Geology. The deadline to register is May 15.

This high school advocacy program offers students an immersive experience in research and advocacy, focusing on community disaster resilience and equitable solutions. It covers topics like Radar technology, Machine Learning, GIS, and community resilience, with an emphasis on natural disasters prediction, mitigation and social equity in community resilience. Today and tomorrow, Fairmount College at WSU is hosting Dr. Sarah Hart to give talks about mathematics and the arts. These talks (at 3:30 pm in Hubbard 211 each day) are free and open to the public!
Dr. Hart will give two public talks, "A Mathematical Journey Through Literature" on Nov. 8 (today) and "The Mathematics of Perspective in Art" on Nov. 9 (tomorrow). Both talks will be at 3:30 p.m. in 211 Hubbard Hall. Hope to see you at one or both talks!

WSU chosen as host of the 2023 National Science Olympiad Sept. 27, 2021 — Wichita State University has been chosen to host the 2023 Science Olympiad National Tournament, bringing national STEM notoriety to the university and up to 7,000 visitors and tourists to Wichita.
WSU is hosting Dr. Arik Kershenbaum next week as the next Watkins Visiting Professor. Dr. Kershenbaum is an expert on animal vocal communication and will give talks on using zoology to predict extraterrestrial life.
