Wichita State has been a national leader in creating a standard for microcredentials, allowing employers to be confident that meaningful learning has occurred when you list the badge on your resume. Badges are developed with input from employers, government licensing agencies, trade associations and faculty.
One such series of badges is the Care of Populations series. This series can enhance your knowledge of public health and provide nurses with 7 CEU hours upon completion of all six badges. Additionally, completing all six badges for a total of 3 credit hours can be applied toward the Bachelor of Science in Health Management.

Congratulations to the WSU CLARION team who placed 2nd in the National CLARION Competition this past weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pictured are Taylor Lipford, Speech Language Pathology; Kristen Geiger Physician Associate; and Taygen Altenburg, Master in Health Administration.
"The CLARION National Case Study Competition is an interprofessional case study competition hosted by the University of Minnesota. Participants receive a fictional scenario and must perform a root cause analysis to determine innovative solutions to the proposed case study challenges. This year, participants were able to pick one of three cases, that each centered around a different essential workplace during a fictional second pandemic occurring in April 2025. Based on what we learned from COVID best practices, independent research, and innovative ideas, we presented our solution to the case. My team chose to address the food processing plant and developed four interprofessional teams to help combat healthcare mistrust, misinformation, vaccine hesitancy, and cultural insensitivities. After winning the local case competition in Wichita on March 1st, we were able to attend the national competition in Minneapolis, MN. At the national competition we presented our case in the initial round and then again in finals. We took second place with our presentation. This competition provided me with a great opportunity to get to learn more about clinical healthcare as I worked with a physician assistant student and speech language pathology student. It also gave me great insight into how to solve issues through procedures and policies, but also through frontline worker perspectives and utilizing best practices partnered with innovation to create a successful plan." - Taygen Altenburg, MHA
Congratulations to Jacey Arnett Senior in Health Science (left) and Salsabila Attaria Junior in Health Science (right) on receiving first place at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum (URCAF). The students’ project is part of a three-year study funded by the National Institutes of Health designed to guide the design and clinical utilization of a wearable fetal heart rate monitoring device among providers and patients alike. The study is led by Dr. Nikki Keene Woods from Public Health Sciences. The interdisciplinary team includes colleagues Dr. Yongkuk Lee from engineering and Dr. Jamie Harrington and Jolynn Dowling from Nursing, as well as students from each of the divisions.
