Our Story
SWEAT has a 25-year history in organising s*x workers, advocating for and delivering services to South African S*x Workers. We have facilitated birth of two movements – a Pan African Alliance of s*x workers (African S*x Worker Alliance) and a national movement of South African s*x workers called Sisonke.
Our vision : A South Africa where people who choose to sell s*x are able to enjoy freedom, rights and human dignity.
SWEAT uses an evidence informed human rights based approach to address s*x workers’ access to health and justice as well as advocate for the full decriminalisation of s*x work.
We embrace the concept of wellness – which requires the active participation of s*x workers in becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness goes beyond merely the absence of disease – it includes physical, mental, and social well-being.
