Happy new year to all of you from Aged Care Physiotherapy Pty Ltd

It was February 2016, when we all learned about Oakden ACF in SA and the beginning of uncovering of chronic neglect and abuse in aged care.

In September 2018, ABC Four Corners broadcasted an investigation into aged care and related abuse and neglect. That prompted Scott Morrison to announce Royal Commission into Aged Care.

October 2018, Royal Commission into Aged Care was appointed to make a public inquiry. Over 10,000 submissions and 600+witnesses and about 2.5 years later a final report with 148 recommendations was submitted.

The final report consisted of about 57 references to the importance of a robust allied health services in aged care. With many specific recommendations.

We quote some of those below:

"Mobility is closely linked with peopleā€™s health and their quality of life. However, we heard numerous examples of aged care providers not supporting people to maintain and improve their mobilityā€”including limited access to allied health professionals critical to promoting
mobility, such as physiotherapists. Poor mobility increases the risk of falls and fall-related injuries due to deconditioning and reduced muscle strength."

"With some notable exceptions, Commissioner Briggs observes that providers have demonstrated little curiosity or ambition for care improvement, and have not
prioritised enablement and allied health care."

"Reablement and rehabilitation need to be a central focus of aged care."

"Throughout our inquiry, many witnesses described the crucial role of allied health in maintaining mobility and functionality and providing restorative care in response to acute
events. We also learned that many people receiving aged care services do not have sufficient access to allied health services."

" We recommend that the benefits of allied health services should be considered in an assessment of a personā€™s aged care needs, and that the personā€™s aged care entitlement
should adequately reflect those needs."

"For residential care, we recommend that the System Governor should ensure providers provide allied health care in accordance with each older personā€™s individual care plan, and should monitor the level of allied health services that are actually delivered. Allied health should become an intrinsic part of residential care."

Late 2021, Labor declares aged care reforms as their priority. May 2022, Labor forms Government in Canberra and continue to make aged care as priority. Aug 2022 first Bill that passes the parliament is an aged care reform bill.

The bill had nothing about allied health in the reforms.

What went wrong?

Are we missing something here? 6 years of the aged care journey has missed the point.

We are aware of the incidents where our number 03 9014 9734 is being used to make some unsolicited calls. We want to assure general public that no such calls are made from our offices. It is probably a case of number spoofing. We have raised it with telecom provider and they are investigating the issue.
You can safely ignore such calls.
Regards
ACP ADMIN

UPDATE 21/04/2022
After too much back and forth with the telco provider and to prevent the number from being used for unsolicited calls we have decided to let go of the 'hacked' number. We now only have one office number which is 03 9015 4333. Hopefully, this number stays safe :)

Lockdown Lifted Across Victoria | Premier of Victoria 27/07/2021

The Victorian Government has announced this morning that the restrictions in place across the state will be eased at 11.59pm tonight, Tuesday 27 July.

The following revised settings have been announced and will be in place for two weeks:

ā€¢ Masks will remain required indoors and outdoors in all settings.
ā€¢ The 5km travel limit has been lifted.
ā€¢ You are able to leave your home for any reason, but no visitors to your home are allowed.
ā€¢ Gyms and physical recreation centres are able to open with a density requirement of 1 person to 4sqm, with group limits of 10 people.
ā€¢ Community sport (all ages) may return with a density requirement of 1 person to 4sqm. No spectators allowed.
ā€¢ Visitors are permitted into care facilities and hospitals under certain restrictions.

We can also confirm that Individual face-to-face services are permitted for essential and routine care, where that care/service is not able to be provided via telehealth. Telehealth remains the preferred service delivery model wherever clinically appropriate.

An adjustment has also been made to border restrictions as follows with further adjustments a possibility:

ā€¢ Residents from the LGAs of Wagga Wagga, Hay Shire Council, Lockhart Shire Council and Murrumbidgee Councils are now required to apply for a Specified Worker Permit, transit permit or an exemption to enter Victoria. They are no longer included in the cross-border bubble and are included in the Extreme Risk Zone, in line with the rest of NSW.

As always, get tested and isolate if you have symptoms and get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible.
