We join communities around the world to renew hope, reconcile lives, and restore creation.

Integral Alliance calls for more attention on Neglected Crises - World Renew 07/21/2024

When newsreels shift rapidly, what happens to the crises that once headlined?

Around the world, the need for support and attention to neglected crises continues to grow. In response, World Renew has joined Integral Alliance and our fellow members to co-author a report outlining five ways to bring more attention to neglected crises.

As part of our ongoing stewardship efforts, we seek opportunities to work alongside other like-minded Christian organizations to extend God’s love and hope to communities in crisis.

As Christians, we're dedicated to loving God, caring for creation, and loving others. One way to do this is to take action in supporting those most vulnerable to climate change. Meet Veronica, a small-scale farmer in Tanzania who is improving her crops with training from our member World Renew Canada.

What makes beekeeping so special? 🐝

In Guatemala, beekeepers like Eddy use their hives to inspire their families.

With increased bees in the region, farmers can produce more honey to sell, see increased yields on their farms from pollination, and can afford to encourage their children to continue their studies.

We're all a buzz about bees, want to join us? 🍯

You can help provide beekeeper training so more fathers like Eddy can support their families. Shop now: https://worldrenew.ca/product/beekeeper-training

⚠️ Pray for the Caribbean

On June 29th, a category 5 hurricane, Beryl, headed toward Caribbean nations with maximum sustained winds of 129-177 km/h. In its path, Beryl brought increased rain levels and raised tides by more than 6 feet on some coastlines. Now downgraded to a category 2 hurricane, Beryl was set to reach the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico yesterday.

This is the first time an Atlantic category 5 hurricane has been recorded this early in the season, leaving many fearing a very dangerous hurricane season to come. Rising ocean temperatures and changing climate are believed to have contributed to the severity of this early storm.

Please join us in praying for:

🙏🏾 Communities in Barbados, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, and Mexico as they seek to recover and rebuild

🙏🏾 Volunteers who are serving their communities and neighbours

🙏🏾 The forthcoming hurricane season and the safety of communities living in island and coastal countries

Pray for Bangladesh 🙏🏽

At the end of May, Cyclone Remal devastated the coast of Bangladesh, impacting more than 4.6 million people. Currently:

⚠️ Over 800,000 people have been evacuated from affected areas due to the destruction of their homes

⚠️ Sanitation systems have been damaged, leading to a greater risk of waterborne diseases

⚠️ Crops have been washed away and food stores ruined, causing increased food insecurity

World Renew, through local partner Faith in Action, is showing the love and mercy of Christ by supplying home repairs, water and sanitation support, and seeds (agricultural inputs) to 1,828 participants in 366 households.

In disasters brought on by storms like this one, your gifts to our Rapid Response fund allow World Renew to move quickly and efficiently to renew hope when all seems lost. Pray for all those affected by extreme weather and for the Faith in Action team as they act as God’s hands and feet in this crisis.

World Renew - Disaster Response Services (DRS) is responding to major floods in northwest Iowa that began on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Heavy rainfall led to evacuations of several towns including Spencer, Hawarden, and Rock Valley, where 500 people were displaced by flooding from a levee break.

World Renew DRS will offer volunteer clean-up services including mold remediation and debris removal while planning for long-term recovery. At least two churches and one Christian school were directly affected by the flood and we are in touch to see what support we can provide congregations in Rock Valley and elsewhere.

World Renew DRS worked in northwestern Iowa after a 2014 flood, including 40 one-week volunteer teams that worked alongside local, one-day volunteers. We will again encourage local community members to join our response efforts in Iowa as our response progresses and we evaluate where our presence will have the most impact.

Please pray for those who have lost their homes and belongings in this flood. Pray for churches in Rock Valley and towns nearby that are currently underwater. Ask God to lead DRS and other responders to those who need help the most and pray for his mercy and grace for those in crisis and hurting.

Celebrating warmth for refugees!

Winters in Lebanon can prove challenging for those without access to a heated shelter. Temperatures can dip as low as 5° C, and refugee families often disproportionately need winterization.

This past winter, our local partner in Lebanon supported over 11,000 individuals with the resources they needed to stay warm – 60% of whom were Syrian refugees. Winterization resources included warm blankets, fuel tanks for heaters, and cash for food and supplies.

We’re grateful for this good work and our local partners!

It's World Refugee Day!

Today is an opportunity to recognize the blessings of refugees in our communities and to educate ourselves about the growing global refugee crisis. There are 36.4 million refugees who have been forced to flee their homes. Now more than ever it is important for us to stand with refugees.

We are committed to supporting churches, locally and around the world, as they seek to care for, uphold dignity, and resettle refugees to Canada. Please continue to pray for refugees, refugee sponsorship committees, and our global partners as they show Christ’s compassion and love to those who are displaced.

Meet Joe! 👋🏽

In 2016, he arrived in Canada from Myanmar as a refugee. With the support of Immanuel CRC in Cornwall, ON and World Renew’s Refugee Sponsorship and Resettlement Program, Joe was welcomed with open arms, ready to start a new chapter in Canada.

We’re so thankful that Joe’s story isn’t unique. With World Renew’s help, over 11,000 refugees have resettled in Canada through churches and sponsoring groups in the last 45 years! To learn more about this work, visit https://worldrenew.ca/refugee

“Walking humbly means that when we are confronted with an issue, we don’t ignore it. Great satisfaction comes to us when we don’t ignore the needs of this world.”

Our friends at Willoughby CRC in Langley, BC, have been welcoming refugees into their community since the 1980s. Over the years, they’ve sponsored over 40 refugees from all over the world. For their sponsoring committee, sponsorship is encapsulated in what it means to live out Micah 6:8.

We’re grateful for their generous hearts!

What does running have to do with the word of God?

In Kenya, it’s inspiring youth to grow! Youth aged 8-16 come together weekly to participate in bible studies, learn how to set goals for their future, and train to run. After an astonishing success, Youth Running Clubs across the country have expanded to 58, impacting 1,300 youth!

Organizers say, “The children have grown physically through the exercises, spiritually through learning the word of God, and they have even grown socially because they can interact well with each other.”

On this , we praise God for the success of these running clubs!

Bees bring big benefits!

For this community in Guatemala, beekeeping is a major source of income. After being equipped with hives, beekeeper tools, and training, they’re now working on teaching their neighbours to raise bees and produce honey to sell.

To say we’re buzzing about bees is an understatement.
