Alberta Basketball Association (ABA) alumnus Jermaine Bucknor is on top of the basketball world after winning the 2024 NBA Championship as a member of the Boston Celtics.

The Edmonton native is in his first season as a player development coach with the Celtics, who on Monday defeated the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 at TD Garden in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to win the championship series 4-1.

The Opportunity

The ABA is looking for a dedicated individual who is mature, self-motivated, and able to work independently while also contributing to a teamwork environment. We are inviting applications for the position of:

COORDINATOR, SPORTS PROGRAMS

The Coordinator, Sports Programs holds a key support role for all Programs and Special Events offered by ABA such as: Team Alberta, ABA 3X3, ABA Club Invitational and the ABA/Canada Basketball Academy.

Key Responsibilities include:

Administration and coordination of program and event delivery and operation,

Communications; including, email, website, social media,

Data entry and validation, reporting,

Event setup and closing,

Developing legacy documentation for programs and events such as: history, operations best practices, and reporting

Location: ABA’s Office in the Percy Page Centre - 11759 Groat Road NW, Edmonton, AB, T5M 3K6 as well as some on-location tasks.

Term: July 3 to August 28, 2024 (negotiable)

Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm (35 hrs/week)*

*Some evening and weekend work may be required as discussed

Remuneration: $15.60/hour

Eligibility

In addition to the application process, eligible applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Program:

be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;

be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,

have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

KidSport Edmonton is hosting a fundraising event on June 19th, and tickets are on sale now! The event will feature a live show hosted by Dustin Nielson from Edmonton Sports Talk and TSN's Ryan Rishaug, with plenty of audience interaction. Throughout the evening, there will be opportunities to participate in fundraising initiatives, and purchasing a ticket automatically enters you into the door prize draw for a Mountain Getaway! WNBA 50/50 Now Open!

In Support of the Alberta Basketball Association and Kids Help Phone As a not-for-profit organization that serves as the governing body for basketball in our province, ABA is thrilled to partner with the WNBA for this historic event. The shared proceeds of this 50/50 will assist in removing barriers to participation for our members by providing financial assistance to offset the registration costs for our competitive programs.

Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7, national e-mental health service offering free, confidential, multi-lingual support to young people. No issue too big or small. Kids Help Phone offers support through phone, text, chat, a peer-to-peer forum and resources on kidshelpphone.ca.

The ACM is an essential resource to those that work with, coach, and/or supervise Indigenous people in physical activity, recreation, and sporting activities. This one-day workshop will provide a greater understanding of coaching through an Indigenous lens and is designed to motivate, inspire, and lead Indigenous people in sport, physical activity and recreation.
