The Philosophy DSC is recruiting members for the 2021/22 department student council! Come work with fellow philosophy undergraduates in coordinating socials for the department, sharing resources, and advocating for your peers!

Thursday, 11 November, 2:30-3:30pm, in Watson 517

Information will be provided by the Graduate Coordinator regarding admission requirements and the structure of the programme, and current graduate students will be on hand to talk about their experiences.

This event is sponsored by the Philosophy Department Equity Committee. Members of under-represented groups (e.g., BIPOC and female students) are especially encouraged to come along.

The ‘meet and greet’ is being held just before the Philosophy Colloquium at 4pm in Kingston Hall 201 with special guest Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist who will speak on ‘Moral responsibility and public health risks in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic’. All those interested in graduate school are encouraged to come to the colloquium too!

Queen’s Chapter of Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) is pleased to invite you to the fourth meeting of our bi-monthly reading group, this year focusing on the Philosophy of Frantz Fanon.

Our next meeting, held via Zoom, will be on Monday, March 22nd, between 11: 30 am and 1:30 pm. MAP members Jonas Monte and Jo Chalupiak will lead discussion on our reading, Chapter Three (pgs. 45-63) of Fanon’s Black Skin, White Masks.

As philosophy students we have the great privilege of gathering regularly for Colloquium, a wonderful event which celebrates academic achievement and curiosity. At CollJOKEium we celebrate academic interest in topics that are too strange to submit to your professor. Maybe you have a deep love for studying the difference between oranges and baseballs (really, what's the difference) or have talked your friend's ear off about how the only possible ethical consumption under capitalism is polenta made from tears and logic quizzes, we welcome your impassioned presentation!
