The Math and Statistics Orientation Camp (MSOC) 24/25 came to a close last week. Kudos to the team of seniors who spearheaded the event and welcomed more than 140 freshmen to our campus. May the bonds forged during the 3-day camp be the catalyst for an awesome start at NUS!

Sharing some highlights from the Faculty of Science's Open House and Alumni Homecoming on 18 May. If you didn't come, here's what you have missed!
1. Prospective students filled the rooms to hear by Dr. Huang Yuting and Dr. Vik Gopal, who spoke about the practicality and uses of and science in various aspects of life, work, and sports.
2. The Statistics and Data Science Society, along with the Mathematics Society, reached out to students at their booth.
3. We caught up with DSDS alumni and learned more about Moonbeam.co (www.themoonbeam.co), a start-up founded by one of our alumnus, Mr Varden Toh (DSA, 2023) which produces granola made from brewers' spent grains.
4. We visited booths from other start-ups, including YuCookies (www.yucookies.com), known for their slower sugar release cookies, and Soda Lemon SG (www.sodalemonsg.com), which creates upcycled glass products.
Yesterday, we welcomed a group of secondary and junior college students to the faculty for a day of interactive and insightful learning about statistics and data science. A special thank you to our incredible speakers and facilitators for sharing their knowledge and passion. We hope that this annual Enrichment Day will spark a lifelong interest in the fascinating world of statistics and data science for these students.

Last week, the NUS Faculty of Science had the pleasure of hosting nine esteemed alumni at the Dean's Dialogue Lunch Session. The event was led by Prof. Sun Yeneng, Dean, Faculty of Science, together with Assoc Prof. Shu Sin Chng, Vice Dean of Student Life & Alumni Relations, and Prof. Adrian Roellin, Head of Department. The session fostered casual yet insightful exchanges among all attendees. We're excited about strengthening our alumni connections and look forward to more enriching gatherings like this in the future!
It was a blast at the inaugural MSc Statistics Gala Dinner last week!
Hosted by Prof. Adrian Roellin, Head of the Department, and Assoc. Prof. David Nott, Academic Director of the MSc Statistics program, the dinner was attended by more than 150 students and alumni. The event provided an excellent opportunity for students to network with their seniors, and for alumni to reconnect after graduation. Three of our alumni also shared their inspiring career stories with the audience that night. Here's to more events like this in the future.
