Spring is a time of growth and renewed strength. The Speech LAB has been growing and renewing and we couldn’t be more thankful for the community we have built over the years.

Love this! With this school year coming to a close, I want to remind everyone to keep moving forward, keep striving to reach your goals and keep moving forward because forward is forward!

Fake language
By 9-months of age, your baby should be using different combinations of consonant and vowels to communicate with you. This difference between how they did this before, is that now, it almost sounds like real adult language. Don’t be surprised if they look at you with an expression that says, “Don’t make me repeat myself.”

Picked up some new “therapy tools” for The Speech LAB office. Who has used these before?

How are you spending your Sunday?? We are spring cleaning our toys at home and figuring out what toys we can take to the office for therapy. ♥️

Amen! We hope this week is full of short reports, easy IEP’s, clients who want to work, staff members that are helpful, no sick kids and lots of compliments! Just putting it out there... 😉

Say what?
By 12-months of age, your baby should be using crazy combinations of nonsensical sounds at the phrase or sentence length that sound like real, meaningful speech. This is when, as parents, we look at each other and wonder if the other parent understood any of that.

Mama or Dada?
By 9-months of age your baby should begin to repeat sounds like, “mama” or “bubu”. They should also begin to make the /t/ and /d/ sounds. This leads to the age old question of what will they say first, “mama” to “dada”? This one’s a real nail biter.

The Speech LAB was founded by Jesse and Missy Coyle, a teacher and Speech Therapist husband and wife team, trying to make a difference. We are the parents of three amazing children who have had their own challenges and victories. Our youngest, is a beautiful little girl with bilateral clubbed feet. “Growl”
By 6-months of age, your baby should begin to play with sounds. This means doing crazy things like growling, squealing and yelling. This is also, when things like date nights and movies can get a little tricky.
