We don't have much news on Ronnie but just wanted to update with his shenanigans. He's a really sweet dog, his weight is perfect now so we've been able to take him down from the 9 CUPS 😮 of food that he was getting, to a more reasonable 4 cups. He loves his toys, but if you take them away from him, he is forced to love his foster sisters. They go crazy chasing after each for what seems like hours. He's getting great socialization and exercise all at the same time. He went to work with his foster today and he was a perfect boy! He also went back to the chiropractor for a little adjustment on his hind end, which seems a little crooked sometimes. He acts like a gentlemen at the chiropractor and is a dream in the car. He's not quite ready for adoption yet but he's closer than we would have imagined a few weeks ago. Keep saying your prayers, he can still use all that he can get!

Pete
Male – Purebred Boxer
Age 2.5
Good with kids: Yes
Good with dogs/cats: No

Let us introduce you to Pete. This gorgeous boy has just finished formal training and is ready for his forever family. He knows all basic commands, walks like a dream on leash and is ready for a home on his own. Pete needs to be your one and only dog in the home as he likes to be the center of attention, and does not share will other dogs. His obedience is spot on, and he would love to continue working on his skills with his person.

His ideal home would be with an active person, experienced with the breed. We all know that Boxers can be stubborn, so providing clear leadership, structure and boundaries are very important in Pete's adoptive home. He is a very happy boy just waiting for the right fit to come along.

He will return the kindness ten fold with wiggles and kisses.

Hey there, it's me Ziba.

I'm a healthy girl now and am looking for my forever home. My punctures have healed and so has my mange.

I'm approximately 5-6 months old and such a little love. I like all other dogs, kids and all people. I would like a fur sibling in my home and a family that is active.

If you would like to make me a part of your family, please complete an adoption application.

Henry....

4 Years old
Dream on leash
Professionally Trained.

Henry is a wonderful dog, that has had a hard knock life. He is very sweet with his humans but at this time would like a home where he is your one and only. He is a bit stubborn, as with some Boxers, and likes to do things on his terms. He doesn't realize his size so we suggest children over 10.

Henry walks like a dream on leash, and is unfazed by other dogs while out and about. He is looking for a strong leader, so he knows he doesn't need to be in charge. He would make the perfect companion for an individual or couple, with no other dogs and no small children, that love to take leisurely strolls through the neighborhood, then curl up and snuggle on the couch while chilling out.

If Henry sounds like the perfect dog for you. Please click on the link below to complete our adoption application.

Running into the new week like............

Photos from R&R Boxer Rescue's post 07/22/2024

Look to the heavens as there is new star. Chloe came to us from SBC back in February 2019 before we were officially a rescue. Our dear friend Angela Halfman helped us get her out under her rescue’s pull rights. We knew we were getting a fearful dog, but we didn’t realize how fearful she was until we got her crate in the car per SBC’s rules of needing to exit in a crate. She was lovely with other dogs, but it took her some time to warm to humans. Someone hurt her ☹ Chloe was adopted in 2019 by a great family when she still was too scared to even walk on a leash. What we didn’t know at that time is her prey drive extended to small dogs and sadly she was returned to us after several incidents. It broke Carmen’s heart to do what was best.

We were so happy to have her back because she was such a ray of light and thanks to Carmen, loved seeing the leash and going for a evening family stroll. It didn’t take long after that for the Grisham’s to get a crush on her and bring her home as a foster to adopt. She was truly at home as Chloe Grisham! But life throws things at us that just aren’t fair and don’t make sense. Jeffrey Grisham passed suddenly and unexpectedly, but Chloe was one of Melinda’s most solid rocks. She loved this girl to the moon and back. Melinda and Cambria relocated all the way up in Vacaville starting a new life near her family. Tragedy struck this lovely family yet again when Melinda was in the hospital yet again. Her small family made arrangements to take care of Chloe until Melinda could home to her girl, but when Melinda was readmitted it became clear that it would be best for Chloe to come back to her original foster home in SoCal.

Team Dog. Team Boxer, Team R&R rallied and got Chloe safe again. She instantly recognized her original foster sister and brother and was wagging her lovely natural tail. Still, she seemed more than just depressed so we took her into one of our great vets where we learned that she had very advanced stage lung cancer. A year ago Melinda had a mammary tumor removed from Chloe that turned out to be malignant. The demon had metastasized with a vengeance. Chloe was still comfortable, so we brought her home with the promise to not le her suffer. Late Friday night her breathing was becoming more difficult, so we brought her back in where our vet told us what we knew, but didn’t want to hear. It was time to keep our promise to not let her suffer.

Chloe amassed quite a family in her years with us. Her Auntie Susan rushed down to also be with her as we said our goodbye for now. We take comfort in knowing she was greeted at the bridge with the warmest welcome ever. It’s not easy keeping promises, but as so many of you know we’d do it all over again for what they gave us. Godsp*ed Chloe.

Do we have any friends with a 3-D printer and some CAD skills? We need some custom items for Ronnie and could really use some help from our supporters.

Our sweet boy Ronnie is being scoped and ballooned tomorrow. Please send a prayer, and if you're able, we could really use donations towards his care. He still has a long road but he's gained 6 pounds since we got him and overall he's doing really good! We'll update once he's out and we have more info on next steps for him.

Brody

Male - Age 1.5 years young
Good with Kids: Yes
Good with Cats: Unknown
Good with Dogs: Yes

Sweet Brody is a Lab mix looking for a family of his own. He is a goofy boy and still very much puppy like. He gets along good with my two other dogs (boxer and boxer/husky girls), and loves his people he bonds with and learns to trust. He is a curious shy boy at first but once he warms up, he is ready to play and he loves his toys! He can use some help walking better on a leash and to not be so scared but I can see as he builds his confidence, he is only going to get better!

He is very treat motivated and wants to please. He is a happy pup that is house trained and p*e p*e pad trained. He can use some support/training to learn to not jump up when he gets extra excited when he sees his people. He loves to be inside and also likes his time in the yard. He currently has his own setup in the garage that he seems to appreciate. He is somewhat crate trained, I leave the door open for him to his crate but that is where he sleeps and where he goes if he feels uncomfortable or scared.

R&R Boxer Rescue has committed to supporting Brody, and finding him his forever family after his previous "rescue" abandoned all dogs they had pulled.

If you are interested in meeting Brody and making a part of your family, please complete an adoption application.

Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. Many different skill sets, personalities and ideals. When we all come together to work towards a common goal, we can achieve successes only imagined.

Rescue has many behind the scenes needs. Social Media, Records Administration, Computer Programing, Transport, Event Coordination, Fundraising Coordination. We couldn't grow and serve our community without all of these pieces of the puzzle.

If you, or anyone you know, is interested in helping a few hours a month behind the scene please email your interest to: [email protected]

Friday Fun Facts.......

Boxers have high energy level and require lots of exercise (What?? No Way).

They love to play and have fun. They act "puppy-like" their entire lifetime, often referred to as the Peter Pan of dog breeds. Their temperament is jovial. Mean Boxers are a rarity. Boxers love to chase, run, play tag and get any form of attention whenever possible.

Boxers are easy to train to do tricks, especially for rewards including attention, love and recognition. They are clever dogs with a good memory. They love to ride in vehicles and are good "road trip" dogs.

Our awesome foster, Marc LaCorte is part of the Schecter Guitars team. Schecter loves dogs and has been very supportive of our rescue and many others. They encourage dogs at work and are always looking for ways to do more. They just launched a new line of dog toys that are super cute, and they will donate the proceeds to the rescues and shelters that they support, including us! If you go to their website you'll notice that our Rudy is front and center, looking like the model that he is! Rudy is being fostered by Marc and we think he's going to be a foster fail... But we're just waiting for the official word, so keep it a secret🙂.

If you're looking for a really good guitar or a cute, edgy dog toy, please check them out and support those that support us!

If you are located in Southern California, we need you!!!!!

Are you thinking about fostering a Boxer in need?

Fostering is the most rewarding experience you can imagine. While all of our volunteers are extremely valuable, we could not rescue any Boxers without our foster families.

Our foster families are a very important piece of the adoption process. Foster families are asked to keep the rescue updated about their foster’s habits and personality — you will know your foster Boxer best, and your updates will assist the rescue in determining the right forever home.

We pay for everything. All we ask is that you provide each dog with structure, stability, and love.

Interested in welcoming a Boxer into your home on a temporary basis? Please complete our foster application:

We know everyone has been eagerly awaiting a Ronnie update, so here goes. Ronnie was finally released from 24/7 hospitalization last weekend. We have a team of volunteers that have committed to him and we are making sure that he gets the best care. We'll spare you the details on what we have to do for him but it requires a strong stomach and rubber gloves😂. He's gained some weight and is looking great! He had 3 procedures while at the vet and will go back to be scoped next week so that we can see exactly how many strictures we might be dealing with. At the moment we know there are at least 2.

He's making progress and we're hopeful that he'll make a full recovery, but he's still going to need the scoping, at least another procedure or two and continued support from our volunteers for the next month or more. Our vet is the best, so we don't even have a bill for his stay yet, but he was there over 3 weeks, had 3 procedures under anesthesia, and was being given a bag full of meds daily, so we know it's not going to be cheap. We committed to Ronnie and we're going to honor that commitment. Any donations are greatly appreciated, they go right to Ronnie's care, and we need them to continue giving second chances to dogs like Ronnie. No donation is too small, we appreciate them all! We'll post another update after his scope next week.

R&R Boxer Rescue’s Mission

R&R Boxer Rescue is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing a life line to dogs at imminent risk of euthanasia at one of our many high kill shelters here in Southern California. These are the seniors, the special medical needs and those that the shelter has deemed rescue only for “behavior.” The latter are most often euthanized as they are labeled dog aggressive or human aggressive. In our experience the vast majority of these dogs are either just scared in the stressful crowded kill shelter environment or have not been properly socialized with other dogs. In all cases these dogs were failed by humans on at least one level and deserve a chance to be the dog they were born to be.

As the name suggests, we are primarily a Boxer rescue, but not exclusively. Our mission is simple in words, helping once forgotten dogs complete a family of their own. Just as every dog is unique, the path and process is unique for each and every one. Our commitment is to giving them the path and process they need to go on and complete a family of their very own. For some that is just some much needed Rest and Relaxation, for others it is Rescue and Rehabilitation, but at the end of the day we are here to give them their R&R.
