The City of Dallas and community partners proudly host "My Dallas Citizenship Day 2024" on Saturday, August 24th.

This event is dedicated to helping eligible Dallas residents take the next step toward becoming American citizens. Around 200 residents are expected to be served with the support of nearly 150 volunteers. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, including assistance with filling out the N400 Form and applying for reduced or full fee waivers.

Doors open at 9:00 a.m. on the 6th floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library (1515 Young St., 75201).

Calling Dallas artists with disabilities! The Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) is accepting submissions for the 2024 Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) Poster Art Competition.

GCPD hopes to highlight an outstanding local artist while sparking and furthering conversations on the employment of people with disabilities across Texas. The winner’s poster will be distributed to businesses across Texas and incorporated into the Texas HireAbility Campaign, aligning with this year’s theme, “Access to Good Jobs for All”. This October, GCPD is celebrating Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) and its 2024 theme “Access to Good Jobs for All.” The Lex Frieden Employment Awards presents an opportunity to recognize and highlight outstanding efforts of inclusive employers exceeding requirements. The Welcoming Communities and Immigrant Affairs division hosted a Welcoming Taskforce Thank You Breakfast on Friday.

A huge thank you to all our amazing city leadership, community partners, volunteers, and staff for making the Welcoming Interactive a success and helping Dallas achieve re-certification as a Welcoming City!

We're thrilled to announce "The New Americans in Dallas" Brief, showcasing vital demographic and economic data on immigrants in our city. Stay tuned as we launch the Welcoming Dallas 2.0 strategic planning process and continue advancing equity and inclusion!

OEI Director, Dr.Wilson participated in a fire-side chat with Maywood Mayor Nathaniel Booker and Dennis Campa of on how we strive to equitably achieve community-wide goals by applying targeted universalism strategies.

Our office had the pleasure of hosting a government class of 18 high students from Episcopal School of Dallas. These students learned about the City of Dallas, our services and participated in an engaging activity that deepen their understanding on equity.

The Office of Equity and Inclusion partnered with the Commission on Disabilities and The Office of Arts and Culture for an empowering Autism Acceptance event at City Hall!

Did you know that in the U.S 1 in 36 children have autism, with higher rates among minority groups? This is just a snippet of the information shared yesterday. The day was filled with resources from local organizations, offering information on disability rights and programming , along with meaningful discussion from amazing speakers on inclusivity and solidarity for individuals with autism and their caregivers.

We were honored to have rising entrepreneur and artist, Flower join us in raising acceptance through her incredible t-shirt designs.💙

Happy National ASL Day! Today, as we celebrate American Sign Language, let's also recognize its role in making language inclusive and accessible for those with speech and hearing impairments. Did you know? ASL is widely used, with around 70 million people relying on some form of sign language worldwide. Take the initiative to learn American Sign Language. Whether through classes or online resources, let's contribute to making language more inclusive and accessible.

Hoy, mientras celebramos el lenguaje de señas estadounidense, también reconozcamos su papel en hacer que el lenguaje sea inclusivo y accesible para las personas con discapacidades auditivas y del habla. ¿Sabías que...? Day 2 of was incredible! Inspiring keynotes with former Mayor Mike Rawlins and NBA Dallas Mavs Champion Dirk Nowitzki set the tone, while insightful breakout sessions equipped over 800 attendees with strategies to tackle current challenges and effect real change.

Huge thanks to all of the volunteers, sponsors, staff, speakers, and attendees for making this gathering impactful. Together, we’re making strides towards a more Welcoming America.

Last week, our office partnered with Dallas County Health and Human Services and Metrocare Services to celebrate with an intentional panel discussion on social inequities and mental wellbeing in the black community. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from policymakers and mental health providers.

A special thank you to our esteemed panelists, moderator, City of Dallas Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn King Arnold and Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price for their invaluable contributions to this conversation.

This past weekend, our WCIA Division participated in the "Northeast Community Safety Event" on Saturday, partnering with the Northeast Neighborhood Police Officers (NPO) Unit, Lowe's, and Dallas County Health and Human Services

Welcoming America is offering $5,000 to a Dallas-area artist to lead an interactive art project that would be part of the Welcoming Interactive Conference. The submission deadline is February 9, 2024.
