The City of Dallas and community partners proudly host "My Dallas Citizenship Day 2024" on Saturday, August 24th.

This event is dedicated to helping eligible Dallas residents take the next step toward becoming American citizens. Around 200 residents are expected to be served with the support of nearly 150 volunteers. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, including assistance with filling out the N400 Form and applying for reduced or full fee waivers.

Doors open at 9:00 a.m. on the 6th floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library (1515 Young St., 75201).

Calling Dallas artists with disabilities! The Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) is accepting submissions for the 2024 Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) Poster Art Competition.

GCPD hopes to highlight an outstanding local artist while sparking and furthering conversations on the employment of people with disabilities across Texas. The winner’s poster will be distributed to businesses across Texas and incorporated into the Texas HireAbility Campaign, aligning with this year’s theme, “Access to Good Jobs for All”. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to share your voice and talents!

Are you or someone you know taking an active role in ensuring full inclusion in your community and workplace? If so, be sure to honor these crucial efforts and nominate them (or yourself!) for a Lex Frieden Employment Award from the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD).

This October, GCPD is celebrating Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) and its 2024 theme “Access to Good Jobs for All.” The Lex Frieden Employment Awards presents an opportunity to recognize and highlight outstanding efforts of inclusive employers exceeding requirements. Self nominates are encouraged. Make sure to join the celebration!

The Office of Equity and Inclusion partnered with the Commission on Disabilities and The Office of Arts and Culture for an empowering Autism Acceptance event at City Hall!

Did you know that in the U.S 1 in 36 children have autism, with higher rates among minority groups? This is just a snippet of the information shared yesterday. The day was filled with resources from local organizations, offering information on disability rights and programming , along with meaningful discussion from amazing speakers on inclusivity and solidarity for individuals with autism and their caregivers.

We were honored to have rising entrepreneur and artist, Flower join us in raising acceptance through her incredible t-shirt designs.💙

Happy National ASL Day! Today, as we celebrate American Sign Language, let's also recognize its role in making language inclusive and accessible for those with speech and hearing impairments. Did you know? ASL is widely used, with around 70 million people relying on some form of sign language worldwide. Take the initiative to learn American Sign Language. Whether through classes or online resources, let's contribute to making language more inclusive and accessible.

Day 2 of was incredible! Inspiring keynotes with former Mayor Mike Rawlins and NBA Dallas Mavs Champion Dirk Nowitzki set the tone, while insightful breakout sessions equipped over 800 attendees with strategies to tackle current challenges and effect real change.
